I'm still a little new to the shotgun scene. There is much that I dont know, but this seems like a problem.

About a year ago I bought a used Pardner Pump from a guy I worked with at the time. Came with both smooth and rifled barrels. I havent given the rifled barrel much thought just yet, I've been interested in shot shells only for the time being. I do want to shoot Sabot slugs before too long though.

Recently I was going through things in my safe and while fondling this barrel I noticed something odd. One or even two of the lands appear to be missing, extending the entire length of the barrel. When inserting a finger the ridges of the other lands and grooves can easily be felt. The ones in question feel like a smooth bore in that area.

Bad manufacturing? Someone shoot some rocks through it? Completly normal?

How about grooves filled with lead from shooting shot shells in that barrel?

Try cleaning it good before looking for a trash can.

Kroil and Shooter's Choice, 50/50, on a new bronze brush. Soak the bore, scrub it out, see if the lands are more visible. If not, crappy manufacturing. Run a really tight patch on a jab through first to see if lead smears on it. Shooting old style rifled slugs can do this sometimes.

Right. The barrel aint super clean in the pics, but no large deposits of any kind. I did clean it up some more since. Definately no plastic or lead buildup.

I finally got around to testing the thing out today. Just put 5 rounds through it for now. I'll sight it in better later in the season trying out another brand or two of sabots.

Hornady SST slugs made a 6-7 inch group at 50 yards from a sitting position, iron sights. I like to think that I am a pretty good shot with a pistol, but I am kinda new long guns, especially hard recoiling slug shooters. So I think my results are reasonable. Problem is that I have little expreience to gauge this on.

Assuming one knows what they are doing, what kind of accuracy should a guy expect from good shooting shotgun?

But setting on the ground, and not used to getting the snot kicked out of you every time you flench a shot off?

Probably not too unreasonable either.

Boy aint that the truth! Don't recommend bench resting. Get a shooting stick and fire from supported off hand works really well.

Funny thing is after using 12 gauge slugs out of light weight pump guns for a couple decades you get used to the recoil. Makes most rifles seem pretty darned tame.
