Halted gun sales infuriate customers

Wal-Mart's decision to stop gun sales also earned it praise from several customers, who said police would protect them from any trouble.

''Why can't we get along? This is a time of crisis," said Mike White of Kenner, La. He said people who need guns for legitimate reasons, such as hunting, would not be buying now.

You've got to be freakin' kidding me! These people are IN Lousiana where the "S" has "Hit The Fan." Are they not paying attention to what's been going on? The police will protect them from any trouble...just like they've been doing...what a crock of horse droppings. I guess keeping your family from being beaten, robbed, raped and killed is not a "legitimate reason" to have a weapon. Unbelievable! :fire:

I can't take much more of this nonsense. I used to just laugh at people like that and say "oh well, it's their funeral." For some reason it is starting to get to me.

What would anyone expect from this communist-loving company?

Wal-Mart gets approximately 50% of its "goods" from China. That means, in effect, for every dollar you spend at "Wal-Mart", that you're giving half to the pinko, commie-loving scoundrels.

It just goes to show just how close we live, day-to-day in AmeriKa to total loss of Constitutional rights, and Civil Rights. Seems our government "leaders" and business "leaders" give us a little more socialist policy and practice every day. And at some not-too-distant future time, we'll end up more communist than Russia itself. If that article listed above doesn't justify purchasing and storing at ALL times about 200 shotgun rounds, or other needed rounds for hunting and potential security ahead of time, I don't know what does.

The woman's statement about change of heart Re: guns reminds me of what my father used to say: "There is no such thing as an atheist...come death time, everyone starts to wonder if God isn't truly real." Guess the same applies to anti-gunners like Rosie who ordered body guards to buy guns, and now this woman. I guess they were just slower learners than we.

I think that article was really well done. It made Wal Mart look really stupid, and the quotes they printed from the wally side really illustrated how dumb they are. I think most anyone these days would get the irony of the statement that poilice will protect them.

This is what's called "pulling a K mart." How many remember that this is exactly what K mart did on Sept 11 2001?

This is more of why I despise the corporate entity. This is more of why I despise the sporting purpose mentality. I hope everybody that was trying to buy some sporting purpose gun from Wal Mart, went to some gun store and bought an AK.

Wny would I need to go to Walmart to buy a gun?

If those people were smart they wouldn't either.
Taken from where I sit now, This is just my bedroom (please ignore the mess). I like all my neighbors so they wouldn't need to go to Walmart either.

One last thing.
All guns are SHTF guns. You use what you got. Some are just more ideal than others (having something that is ideal is good though).
Walmart can go to hell

Smaller stores are eagerly filling the void. Spillway Sportsman, near Baton Rouge, sold 172 guns in one three-day period after the hurricane, when normally it might sell 15. One mother came in to buy her first gun after she and her two children, ages 9 and 12, witnessed a slaying on the streets of New Orleans, said Scott Roe, Spillway's owner.

''Her comment was, 'I was a card-carrying, antigun liberal -- not anymore,' " Roe said. ''She said, 'I'm going back home, and I am not going back unarmed.' "

Well I was glad to read that. Sad that it takes such a disaster to get some liberals' heads on straight.

How anyone can look around at the situation in the affected areas and declare that the police can protect people is simply beyond comprehension.

I have a friend who worked in an L.A. gun store duting the Watts Riots. All the anti-gun liberals came in buying all the guns in the shop. CA required a 3 day wait on handguns so they took all the rifles and shotguns. He said within a year 95% were brought back and the owner paid them 50% of retail to take them back. As soon as the fires were put out they decided they didn't a gun any longer. Some people never learn.

I'm sure Wal-Mart did this for PR reasons. The outrage from the good people is likely less than the pressure from the antis. Sad but true. Wal-Mart makes these decisions based on business considerations alone.

Of course the lesson here is to already have your gun, and ammo, and have it with you. Who wants to be gun shopping during a crisis?

There is somewhat of a silver lining here. Their decision to abondon American's in a time of great need helped other businesses that sell firearms and other home/family safety products and services. Many of which are smaller and have been greatly affected by Wal-Mart tactics in the past. This helped those venture's financially (in the form of sales/services) and just as importantly proved to many people that they are not about to abondon American's in the name of political correctness. I would hope that the (negative) actions of Wal-Mart are broadcast far and wide...as are the (positive) actions of the other business ventures to stand by American's are broadcast far and wide.

I totally agree with RDE!.. All Walmart did was give small businesses more business. Yah it was convenient to go there an get Socks, Motor Oil, Eggs, and Bird Shot, but now that gives me more reason to go to the small businesses. Well at least are extended friends on here that own Firearm businesses will make out in the end!!... So much for a Local Country Families department store! We still got the BASS PRO SHOP!!! :D

My e-mail to Wallmart.

I understand that you have stopped selling firearms on the gulf coast.

I have been a Walmart customer for many years. You are my exclusive supplier of ammunition as well as groceries and sundries. That is going to change. Your flagrant disregard for the Second Amendment rights of your gulf coast customers has convinced me to take my business elsewhere. In addition this e-mail shall be posted on the busiest firearms bulletin boards in the country along with a plea for the people there to also stop shopping at your stores!!!

:fire: :fire: :fire: :cuss:

Personally I think this is a great thing. I'd rather Wal-Mart got out of the firearms business before they ran all the smaller shops out of business rather than wait for them to pull this kind of stunt AFTER there are no longer any small shops left.

+1 Insightful. If I ever buy firearms related anything from them, it will only be because they're the only place in town that sells Winchester Cheap Bastard -- erm, White Box, I mean, and that's the only 380 jacketed semi-wadcutter I'm aware of. (FMJ makes smaller holes and JHP underpenetrates *badly* in mousegun calibres; wadcutter is ideal)

Oh yeah. I'll also think very hard about whether I can find what I need elsewhere.

I personally have never met anyone from NOLA who was not prior to Katrina already armed.

Like waiting till your boat is sinking before you install a bilge pump.

Shoulda had a gun already. No sympathy for the empty hands.

I was piddling around on the Florida Department of Agriculture web site yesterday (They administer the FL CCW license)

The three FL counties with the highest number of CCW permits are:

Palm Beach 25338
Broward 32504
Dade 38613

These are also predominantly "blue" counties

Yes, Wal-Mart is evil, but you don't have a lot of choice when you've got a lot of mouths to feed and limited funds. My family just can't afford to spend $4 and upwards for a box of cereal at the grocery when you can get it for $2 at WM.

I shop for groceries and sundry at WalMart - they're the only game mear my outlying town, and the mom and pop grocery down the street charges 5 times, (seriously) what Wally World does. At $3.08 a gallon of gas, I can't afford to drive further into town than WalMart.
I also do not buy firearms or ammunition there - they don't carry reloading supplies, or milsurp, so that comes from either Jensen's, or ordered in from J&G Sales.

Perhaps WalMart has discovered that law abiding citizens who want to protect themselves are not their real customer base.

Or maybe WalMart is trying to save their customers money because their defensive weapons would be confiscated by the police and National Guard anyway.

was i the only one smiling when i read this? :D
