Hammer block on a S&W J frame

I am getting my J frame back together, but I do not have the diagram just for this model. I am looking at the one I have and I think that this is the right location for the hammer block.
I have enclosed a picture of the hammer block installed, is this the proper location?
Also, I am wondering what the hammer block does exactly.

Yes, that is correct.

The hammer block does what it's named for. If the trigger isn't pulled all the way to the rear, it blocks the hammer from making contact with the firing pin,

Don't worry too much, if the hammer block is out of place the sideplate won't go back on...
