SOme threads talk of ammo prices going up....
because of raw materials cost increases as well
as some with less demand costing more. so I did
a bit of research

I'll list some prices from a smaller supplier
I won't name but found they offer good loads
and bullet selection. I'll list cartridge and bullet
& price/50 then the Starline price for a 500 pakk
of new brass.

158 gr. Hornady XTP HP
.38 SPecial $18.64/50 $ 62.50/500
.357 Magnum $ 19.95/50 $ 65.95/500

ok, seems reasonable difference

.40 S & W 155 gr. Hornady XTP HP
$ 25.05/50 $ 69.95/500
.400 CorBon 155 gr. Hornady XTP HP
$ 30.99 /50 $ 92.15/500

Ok, the cartridges cost 12 cents a round
difference - what is the brass cost difference?
.40 S & W = 14 cents each
.400 CorBon = 18.4 cents each
So, because of less demand for the .400 CorBon
and handling bottleneck brass? is the 7 cents
more per round?

let's look at that further...

185 gr. Golden Sabre JHP
.45 ACP - $ 25.00/50 $ 74.25
50 cents a round & 14.9 cents per brass
.45 AUto Rim $ 26.50/50 $ 79.10
53 cents a round / 15.8 cents per brass
.45 Long Colt $ 33.00/50 $81.40
66 cents a round / 16.3 cents per brass

Problem with the .40 S&W vs .400 Corbon
I think since the .40 S&W is selling for the same
as the .45 ACP. Maybe all the demand from
LEO etc.?

.45 ACP vs .45 AR seems reasonable difference
but then what gives about .45 Colt? Could it be
the demand brought on by Cowboy Action SHooting ?

Rhetorical but ammo companies perception of
the market so they gig em 10 cents a round eh?
