Ok so now its time for a real handgun safe and I have a few questions. I only have handguns and don't plan on any long guns. I want a safe big enough for the four guns I currently have and several more I plan to buy. The only places I have for the safe would be my closest wich is a bit to small for what I want, or the garage.

I have a dac sport safe for my bedside gun and that works fine. I guess my main questions are is it safe to have my safe in the garage? Are there any reasons why I should not have a safe in the garage? Is the anything speacial I should do if I do keep it in the garage? I would secure it to the house somehow so that no one could just crash through the garage door and steal the whole safe with al my guns.

Dose anyone have any ideas/suggestion/the same problem I do?

Thanks

Unless your safe is gasket sealed, a garage enviornment will be more prone to variations of temperature and humidity. Wouldn't worry about it if you were in Arizona or someplace like that, but in Va. Beach humidity would be a concern. There are of course dehumidifiers, etc. which could fix that issue.

Also, is your garage as secure as your home? Even with door opener code scanners defeated by newer models, a typical rollup garage door isn't much in the way of a determined thief.

Nothing wrong with the garage except the potential corrosion problems mentioned by zappadragon which can be taken care of.

Make sure to anchor the safe to the concrete floor, I'd suggest using some good epoxy secured masonry anchors. Put it in a corner where you can throw an old blanket or tarp over it so everyone who looks into your garage can't see a safe sitting there. For simple security you don't need an expensive safe, just one that a thief can't pick up and carry away to work on at his leisure.

I may be alone, but I have on many occasions left my garage door open and had a neighbor tell me I needed to close my garage door at 10:00 at night. so for me, that would not be a great option. Also agree w/the concerns about humidity damage.

I would keep it inside. A close is the best place. I imagine the safe you'll be lookingat won't be larger than 24"x24"18".
