They are putting together a 50th year reunion for the Coast Guard Academy class of ’74. I had a color vision problem so didn’t pass the medical and was sent home, but they still had me on the list of classmates and tracked me down. Brought back some memories.

It was a different world back then. My file shows that travel was reimbursed at the rate of $ .06 per mile for a total of $93.84. I also found the letter from Commander A.M. Danielsen, giving me permission to bring my handguns and reloading equipment. Even then I was into target shooting, and he assured me that I would have many chances to shoot. So I built a wooden chest for my gear, (no problems with the airline) and confused the officer who was checking me in at the academy by stating it needed to go to the Armory and showing him the letter.

Probably wouldn’t happen these days. ;) Unless they are on the pistol team, I wonder how much shooting cadets get to do?

My boss was in the USAF from about 1985 to 2005 and had never fired a handgun in his life until I took him to the range a couple months ago.
He said he fired the M16 rifle exactly twice the whole time he was in.:uhoh:

Dang. I thought you were announcing a two for one sale for Glock 19s at Academy Sports. I was getting pumped. Then I read your post.

Spoil sport.
That still would not be enough of an enticement for me to buy a Glock 19, or any other Glock at this point, which makes me an anomaly I'm sure. Now if they had a twofer for 1911s.....:)
