In honor of this day, I give you my own 30-Gov't-06:

It now wears a 3-9x40 Leupold, but it is still my favorite "meat rifle".

A few of my 30-06s and a Nylon66.

With all the remarkable bullets and loads available the Ol’ Girl is useful for anything from bunnies to bears. I have a 110 Vmax handload that is both accurate and devastating, I call them VSP rounds.
VerySmallPieces, left of what ever was shot with it.
I have a lot of heavy bullets for my Blackout I’m going to work through the 30-06 this summer.
A handloaders dream. Endless combinations, and all of them good!:)

Having been denied a new mower, for lack of freaking lawn mowers,, I think a new bolt action is in my future. Time to go see what rifles CZ chambers in it.

In honor of .30/06 day, and for the days leading up to July 4th, here is an all original 1944 Springfield Garand that I fondled at my FFL’s shop this afternoon:

I hope this gun saw service during WWII during the final March to victory. It was amazing to hold a gun that came with all its original-era parts and doesn’t appear to have been armory-overhauled at all.

Stay safe.

They are underrated and unappreciated today.

Yes, they are. The 30.06 is a very versatile round that gets no love from gun mags and bloggers today and that’s a shame.
The only reason I converted my Garand was it was getting hard to find ammo that the Garand could handle for a decent price at the time. Also, I didn’t reload then.

I am considering a bolt gun. 30.06 is at the top of my list.

Like many of you, my two 30-06's are a Garand and a 1903-A3. Sorry, no pictures!

On another note, an older friend found some surplus 30-06 ammo that he gifted me for my collection. Two cartridges with 1917 on the headstamp with an extra heavy crimp. And three boxes of cartridges dated during WW2. I think the extra heavy crimps were for cartridges intended for use in aircraft.
