Yay! I'm finally a 3 percenter...

Having listened to the audio piece an additional time, I'm still amazed at how moderate and relativelu balanced the reporter's coverage was even with some provocative questions from the NPR host. For NPR, that is ...

Unfortunately you know that the progressives will go after the three percenters even more viciously then they're going after the economic 2 percenters ...

They did say (at the end of the piece, after the host did is best to make it a hit piece) that

1. Super owners aren't the source of violent crime.

2. Super owners don't aren't responsible for the suicides that make up 2/3 of annual gun deaths.

3. Super owners may be more careful or better trained in the handling of guns than the general gun-owning public.

So it's all good! :D

1. There's already a thread about this.

2. The statistics are based off of "phone surveys". How many gun owners out there do you think just simply declined to participate or hung up on the call?

3. Kind of inconclusive IMO.

Did the study differentiate between regular private owners and dealers that own their inventory? For instance, Mr. Hyatt here in Charlotte owns Hyatt Guns, one of the largest gun stores (inventory) in the nation. Does he count as a gun owner? If there's a trend to be observed it's consolidation of smaller dealers by the larger ones, echoing trends seen in other segments of the consumer economy.

Best wishes and prayers from St. Theresa of Avila can't hurt.

This.
I don't do any phone surveys, much less one asking about owning guns.

Same disreputable methodology as the Chicago students asking inner city residents if they own guns. In a city that had decades of prosecutions for possession, as having guns was illegal.

Of course people tell you what you want to hear. Then base a survey on that reality knowing it will have a slanted result and you get this.

There are reputedly more than 325 million guns in America. Of that, there are approximately 120 million adult men and 129 million adult women, slightly skewed as older adult women live longer. About 35% of men own guns, 41 million. And 15% of women own guns, about 19 million for a total of 60 million. If 3% of the population own 50% of the guns, that is 9.6 million owners of 160 million guns, leaving 160 million for the rest. That's 41 million, which is about 4 guns per person.

Of the 3%? About 16 guns per person.

Seems legit.

Go do the math. What do you come up with?

This is junk "science". More reliable data says we have around 100 million gun owners in the country, 3% of which is 3 million. If their data is close to accurate and these 3 million own 50% of the guns, that leaves lots of guns in the hands of others. I say so what?

I seriously doubt that Hahvahhhd has had anything to do with any meaningful studies in the last 50 years.

They are the epitome of an ivory tower. They don't ask people's opinions, they validate their own theories. And indoctrinate the youth that pay insane amounts of money to attend....thereby re-validating their theories.

The study says....

78% of the adult population doesn't own guns.

19% of the adult population owns 50% of the guns

3% of the adult population ows the other 50% of the guns.

What I get from that is far less than 50% of the adult population is actually pro 2A.

Sad.
