I am very interested in the Ruger LCP. Now I know its essentially a Kel-tec with a slide stop. To me thats pretty important. I have not found an LCP in any of the local shops yet they all seem be able to order one but I want to handle it a little before I buy one. So my question is who here has shot one yet? Are they everything ruger promises?

I know about the bad press of Bill Ruger and I know that a lot of people are mad that they basically ripped off Kel-tec's design.

I am waiting on reviews also, I had always been considering the kel-tec - but if the lcp is reliable, it will be my next purchase. I hoping a flood of range reviews come in the next couple months...by the way, I don't think the lcp has a slide stop, just a slide release - may be wrong though.

According to the reviews I have read and the video of the gun being fired I watched at Down Range Television ( www.downrange.tv) , the slide stop is manual, meaning that the shooter must engage it, say to clear a jam or to show clear at a range. The slide did not lock back when the magazine was fired empty on the video.

Regards- conwic

I read one report that said frame was peening from factory. Another said at 10 and 30 yds sights were dead on and could hold 5 or 6" group at 30yds.
Since it a KT design I would expect the same problems a new model KT
has.
I have 3 KT's and in no hurry to sell or trade As mine all have been 100% from box . 380 over a 1000 rounds and the 32's are in 700+

What reports of "peening" have you seen? I've only seen such reports on some SR9's, but not on the LCP yet.

glad I started this thread and watched the videos now, since the slide does not hold open after the last round it seems about the same to me as the P3AT. I still need to find one at a shop and handle the two side by side.

I think handling one is a good Idea. :)

Take a look at the mag release on both guns – I think you’ll find it harder to inadvertently hit the Rugers due to its grip.

The frame peening report was mine, I posted pictures of the gun here:

If you look closely on the slide hold open photo you can see the peening below the extractor. At the time the only ammo through the gun was from the factory, after firing, the peening is very slightly worse.

I'll be watching it closely.

Still very happy with it though, 100% reliable.

The only range report I can give to you is of my good friends who owns a shooting range he bought one of the first ones and out of the box with nothing done to it, no more lube than it originally came with fired 1000 flawless rounds through it, with everything they could put in the pipe. He has since cleaned it--just because and as of today has a total of 1600 flawless rounds through it. It has went bang every time, the quality according to him is excellent, no excess plastic flashing hangovers, no roughness of the grips due to seems etc, slide finish is excellent. the recoil system is much nicer than that of the KT. He loves the extractor system which is so typical of most all semi's. The manual slide lock, well u decide. Why ruger didn't make it an automatic slide lock is beyond me but it is there never the less . Over all the finish and looks is awsome and for being the same size as the kt's the grip design gives it a much different better feel. I am awaiting my two any day now and I can assure you I will shoot the living p-ss out of them.

Ruger didn't include an automatic slide lock because they didn't envision it to be a combat pistol and didn't see a need for tactical reloads. Shipping with one magazine falls in line with that thought. :)
Purely a pocket pistol, shoot what's in it if you have to & go from there.

I put about 175 rounds trough mine today. 3 different brands of ammo, 2 hollow point and 1 fmj. I had one round nose dive into the feed ramp but i had just switched to weak hand for the first time so it may be something i did. Other than that i really like this little pistol.

Mine is also showing the "peening" on the frame. It appears to be caused by the rounds slamming into the frame directly below the extractor. The trigger pull is LONG. I had a hard time getting used to the long trigger after shooting my 1911. But when the trigger breaks it breaks pretty crisply, just takes a while to get there.

I have rather large hands, but I had no problem holding the pistol. It points well, and I found it easier to pull the trigger using the 1st knuckle on my hand.

Accuracy is good for a pistol this small. At 25yds I can keep all rounds in a paper plate. From 7yds all rounds are within a 4inch group. I believe this will get a little better after I have more time to get used to the trigger. These groups are acceptable to me as I see this as a "Get out of my face" gun rather than an extended confrontation gun.

Will this pistol replace my 1911 as my primary CCW? No. But it will be nice to have this summer when the temp reaches 101 and pants and heavier fabric shirts may not be comfortable.

Oh the ammo I was shooting......

WWB 95g FMJ
Rem 88g JHP ... this is the ammo that had the one FTF.
Monarch green box 80g? JHP

Fiance has my camera so no pictures yet.
