Has anybody thought about completing a collection?

Eclectic Collection

I have a very Eclectic collection myself but I still consider it my gun collection. I do have some sub-collections within my main collection i.e.

Winchester pump .22's --model 1890,90,1906,62 & 61
German pistols --PPK/S, PP, Luger, PPK
Military guns -- M1 Garands, M1 carbines, Webley

I consider them all part of the same main collection and love them all individually.

My 12 year old asks me when I'll be "done" and I tell him that I'll be done when I die then he will get a nice "starter collection" to build on

Hope he gets a good job..... Hate to think how much ammo will be by then.

Okay, now you need to collect ammunition too. :) Tell your son I did it for him.

The thing about personal collections is that it's the collector who gets to determine the principle on which the collection is based. No other opinion matters. So what you and I might consider an "assortment" or "accumulation" or no more than a "pile of junk" could be a tightly-defined collection from his point-of-view. Once we know that viewpoint even we might recognize it as an interesting collection.

That's one of the reasons I have a soft spot in my heart for dedicated collectors of just about any kind. I enjoy seeing the person behind the collection.

Absolutely. I want a .410 because we don't have one; and eventually will want an O/U. I want a .22 revolver for the same reason (and because they're cheap practice). I would love to have more BHP's but they're not easy to find.

And then there's all those goodies out there for my C&R. :D

Within the confines of my collection, I desire to own a NIB speciman of every variation or every gun and then will be constantly upgrading or thinking of upgrading as you don't always have the perfect speciman. Needless to say, I'll never complete the collection and it doesn't particularly bother me that I won't. Certain guns are quite rare and expensive and I have limited resourses when it comes to guns over $20 or 40K each. The fun is in the chase and the gaining of knowledge.

There is an ebb and flow to most interests. I'll go hot and heavy for a couple years and then I'll ease off and do other things.

I'm a big Colt fan and have been trying to complete a Snake Gun collection for several years now. I have a NIB 6" blued Python, as well as a 6" Stainless Python, a NIB Nickel Cobra, a 6" blued King Cobra, a 4" blued .22LR Diamondback and a 4" nickel Diamondback, a NIB nickel Viper, and a 6" Stainless Anaconda but the only real hole I have is the Boa. They are running in the $2000-$3000 range and just plain out of my price range.... so my collection may never be complete.... but I'll keep looking and you just never know.....
