Hi

Has anyone bought a handgun for the date it was made ?
I would like to get one from the year I was born ( 1958 ) .
Like a nice Smith and Wesson Model 15 .

Any places that would do a search for you like this ?

Thanks Bill

Ya know, never thought of it, but since colt offers factory letters and such it would be neat to track down a SAA or 1911 made on my birthday...

Not the date it was made but I bought my Mak-90 on 6/6/6 and then this last year I bought my PT1911 on 7/7/7. I still don't what to get on 8/8/8 maybe a DR200 if I could find one or a SAA or if I really save a .50 BMG.

I have the following in the year I was born (1953)...

Romainian TT33 -- 7.62x25
CZ52 -- 7.62x25
Ruger Single Flatgate -- .22
M1 Garand -- .30-06
Kessler Mod 30 Bolt Action -- 16ga
Mosin Nagant 91/30 -- 7.62x54R
MAS 49/56 -- 7.5 French

Always looking for more ...

Ruger single six convertable was made in 1964, given to me by my boss when he found out my birth year was the same.
1964 Marlin 336 in 44 mag. I bought at a garage sale and later that day found out the date of manufacture...

I don't think this is exactly what you're wondering, but when I got my M1 receiver from the CMP, I specifically asked for a serial number in the manufacturing date range of WWII. I got what I asked for - an August 1943.

Not really, or at least not yet. I do have two Colt Pythons; a blue 6" bought new in 1979 and a blue 4" bought used in 2007. I later checked the manufacture date and both were made in 1978, the year I graduated High School. If my finances get better and I run across a blue 2 1/2" Python made in 1978 who knows, I probably will. Although it will take quite a while for my finances to get to that point.

I bought a Soviet Nagant revolver that was manufactured in 1926 at the Tula Arsenal - because I already owned a Mosin-Nagant M91/30 rifle that was also manufactured at Tula in 1926.

TX1911fan: If I found an Inglis Hi Power made in 1966 I'd probably have to buy it.

It would be a fake- Inglis only manufactured HP's during WWII. Get a "T" series instead- they're a whole lot prettier.

Yes, I purchased a High Standard Model H-D Military .22 LR semi auto for that very reason. :)

Hi

How do you find the Guns of specific years ?
Do you get the serial numbers and just go hunting around ?

Thanks Bill

I only check dates to ensure C&R status.
Some pistols have dates marked, others via serial number. Some you have to research the manufacturing history.

Sometimes....like my 50th Year Single Six, 50th Year .357 Blackhawk, 40th year 10/22

The S&W Model 637 I got recently has my Birthday (except year) on the evelope for the spent case. The serial number also has my first and last initial in it. All coincidence, as I planned to buy it anyway, because of price, but those two things made the decision easier.

Also, my Model 19 Smith was made in 1979, my birth year...

So, Kind of.

I buy M1 Garands and Carbines because of when they were made and used.

I buy only per internal lock S&W guns because of whatever date it was S&W went over to the dark side.

I bought a P-38 because it was a 1940's gun.

I don't recall buying a gun because of the exact year it was made.
