The Auto Mag was a very poorly engineered pistol. Sooner or later, the pin that rotates the bolt shears off. Installing a later model bolt, etc. does not cure the bad design problems.
Another downside is the terrible shape of the backstrap. The designer had very little imagination and the external shape of the grip frame is the way it is to accommodate the hamer spring. Bass-ackwards.
Recoil is nothing difficult. Reliability rests with your skill at handloading and case forming.
There were about three manufacturers. It wasn't the fabrication of the pistol that gave trouble, it was the poor engineering.
This dog is strictly a collector's trap.
My opinion based on my experiences. I know shooters who liked it. Their hands were a great deal larger than mine.
