Has anyone put one of these on an SKS

If I was going to put a scope on an SKS, that would be the one to use! I have looked into side rail mounts for the SKS, and the receiver is kinda thin where the rail has to bolt on, unlike an AK where they rivet through the receiver.

Edit: if the SKS isn't a nice one you could have the side rail welded on by a tig welder. Probably need to extensively mod the left side of the stock too. Always wanted to try it but never got all the pieces together at one time.

It's a Chinese one that has a nice bright bore. The welding route would probably be the way I go but I'd need to find a welder who I can trust to get it welded straight on not crooked.

I have not.

I agree here. I have a very accurate SKS that I have often wondered how well it could shoot if I put a scope on it. I think of it as an $80 rifle and have a hard time justifying fixing it up. Something like that might be fun!

My first SKS was an honest to God better than moa shooter. Not one group, or an accidental perfect shooting day, but every time I target shot it. I took several deer with it and regularly shot clays on the range way past 200 yards with the crappy sights it came with. Always wanted to scope that one....

Thats more than twice what i paid for my SKS! But its pretty darn neat!

Mill, Drill and Tap for an M-Lock rail would be my choice over welding. The M-Lock positioning stud will work well for alignment and recoil.

Not worth the trouble. As stated, too much metal work, too much stock gouging, and not historically correct. (Except for a few possible one-offs.)

That might look really cool. SKS has a flat receiver, would simplify installing an AK dovetail rail. I have a pso, was going to do same to a 303 brit.

I have one on a Yugo M77 using the standard AK side rail. That would be way too tall if you mounted it to the side of an SKS receiver.

Ever think about the Mosin PU style mount? I think they were in commercial production to be used on SKS’s for a long time. Lot of people make replica Mosin snipers with them. I did once. Solid mount but scope options are somewhat limited.

I had not! I'll give it a look.

I found the single piece RWS rimfire mount fits perfectly on the rear sight base of a Mosin. You have to take the square part of the block off, (there is a pin at the rear of the block that needs to be driven out) then you might have to tap the top part off with a brass or dead blow hammer. Some were silver soldered, but they will come off. A cleaner more solid mount, and it doesn't sit way up.

For that type of mount, you use an Intermediate focal length scope, i.e., a pistol scope. It makes it sort of a Scout Rifle in the Jeff Cooper manner.
