Have a Pistol Under Your Pillow?

If it's in a holster that covers the trigger and is a DA/SA aurto or revolver I see no problem.

I keep mine under the pillow I don't use. Sleeping on it leaves a crick in my neck.

:p

I keep it hammer down, chamber loaded (DA/SA), safety on right next to the pillow. I guess I don't have the same half-asleep experiences that other have. I am either asleep or I am awake and fully aware of my surroundings. I normally don't keep the safety activated on a DA pistol but I figure the extra step to fire is a "just in case" provision. It's probably pointless since I keep vampire hours anyways and sleep in the daytime but its a long-ingrained habit by now.

Nope, I keep mine on the headboard in a holster. Worse comes to worse, I will knock it off and it will klonk me in the head. If I am tossing and turning that much it would be best if it woke me up before the wife tosses my butt out of the bed for keeping her up all night :)

I do keep a handgun under the pillow, a S&W 686 revolver with a heavy trigger pull. It's in a partially unzipped gun rug sandwiched between the pillow & the pillow case. It might not work for everyone, but it definitely works for me. No kids or neighbors to worry about, the cats step on my pillow & head instead of the gun, and the armed intruder who cornered me in my bedroom years ago got quite a surprise.

No, not under the pillow. We have 2yo so keeping guns in the open, especially a loaded one is a big no-no. Mine (sp 101) sleeps in a small safe on the nightstand. The safe is one of those key-pad combination ones and I have spent many hours practicing opening it in the dark.

Attached to headboard, well away from where the 4 year old can reach. When I am up, it's on me, so I don't worry. He can't reach it over me, (tall bed), and the two dogs will give me some warning of Bad Things Happening, too. Here, this shows how it works....

Armored mans idea will work

But no way under the pillow. I dont want to ahve a dream about a gun fight or what not and actually be handling a weapon while im sleeping.

Right or wrong?

I don't know if this is right or wrong but one of my 357 mags revo is on my bed and my 12 ga. is under. I live in a very small eff. apt and I have upset a few bg by putting them in jail (1 or 2) 1 of them jumped bail and know where I live. I am not some Billy Bad A** But I have never had a prob with it there.

Not me. If I lived somewhere where I felt that threatened, I'd think seriously about moving. I keep mine in the bathroom. At my age that's where I spend most of my time at night anyway. :D

Nope. 12 gauge under the bed. 30-30 in the closet. No handguns. Don't need 'em. I sleep upstairs and far away from the point of any possible entrance.

Not ib the bed

I keep my G26 in a kydex screwed to the underside of the night stand and a SureFire light on top of the stand. Shotgun is in the closet about 5 feet away.

Keeping a gun under the pillow seems very dangerous considering all the tossing and turning and overly paranoid. Better to have it within arms reach but not in a place where you might accidentally grab it in your sleep. Or blow your finger off while trying to hit the alarm clock. :uhoh:

I have posted quite a few times - with little or no comment coming back - IMO the floor is a good place!

When I turn in, my carry piece goes down on the floor .... almost under the edge of the covers but not quite. That way it is all but invisible to anyone looking, unlike on a night stand - where incidentally I reckon it can be easily knocked off in a fog of sleep.

The floor means too that my right arm has only to drop out the side to touch floor and there is the piece ... always lying available so that muzzle points down to end of bed and grip is ready for holding. In my semi conscious state I'd rather feel for this there than any other place - and the move is discreet, if any BG were standing at the door!.

Think about it.

Its not comfortable nor do I feel it is safe.

I keep my primary home defense gun under the nightstand. One in the chamber (on a DAO pistol)

I can get to it pretty damn fast.

I used to keep one under the pillow at all times, a Glock 19 with a full mag and empty chamber. Even banged a girl's head off it a few times by accident. Now I keep it a Walther PPK/S in a pocket holster by the bed, but the young one is about to learn to crawl so it looks like I'll be buying a gun vault for the nightstand.

Revenge of Zombie Thread!

But, since I haven't commented in this thread yet...

No, my HD gun goes in a drawer in the nightstand. Once I tried leaving it in the open on a headboard/bookcase I had. I woke up one morning to see the gun and one of the pillows laying over by the door. Never did figure out exactly what happened, but ever since, gun stays in the drawer now. I also like the drawer because it gives me a second to wake up while putting on my glasses and getting into the drawer for the gun and flashlight.

I use the nightstand. Gun is condition 1, in a holster, with a pair of pants or a towel over it to make the placement a bit more discreet for guests (wanted or not).

An Army MP friend had told me that some US army troops in hostile locales sleep with their weapon under or in their rack and in hand. I couldn't swear whether he was jerking my chain or not - I'll bet there are a number of board members who can verify or dispute that one.

Had an M-16 w/203 attachment. It did sleep by my side on my cot. Kept both chambers empty, mag inserted, and a loop in the sling wrapped around my wrist. Later I ordered an organizer from Cabela's that contained a pouch for a rifle. It wasn't obvious to an unknowing observer, so I started using that instead.

On the floor was where I did when I was single -here's a trick for you. Take a large magazine, (reading style), and open in, lay it face down over your weapon. If the BG gets in the room before you awaken, then he doesn't have your pistola - just a magazine you were reading before going to sleep....

870 MkI sitting muzzle-up between bed and nightstand...

Caspian Officer's ACP in top drawer of nightstand. SLR-95 sitting muzzle-up a few feet away in closet, with sliding closet door cracked to show AK. S&W 696 in top drawer of wife's nightstand. 90-pound House Horse® on bed between wife and myself. We don't need a pistol under our pillows. :D
