Then if you still want to fiddle with this contact their corporate HQ.

Even better, contact your local office of the BATFE!!! I have found that they REALLY get upset about stores that do not follow the law. :D:evil:

Its not Cabelas policy, at least not nationally. I've bought from Cabelas several times here in Fort Worth, and never been asked for any form of ID other than my drivers license.
Same here in Glendale, AZ. And a CCW bypasses the NICS check.

NICS stays open VERY late. The guy just didn't want to do his job, or was completely incompetent;

Looks like this was the case... I avoid the box stores like the plague. The sales people usually leave something to be desired.

I bought a Taurus UL 85 a couple of months ago at Cabelas. DL was all that was needed.

I don't know if that is true. I have been around the world three times, and have never owned, or needed a passport.

Let me guess, you did it while following the philosophy of: "if it moves, salute it, if it doesn't, paint it".

If not, then it is amazing where a Military ID card and a set of orders can send you.

I have two passports (US & Canadian) but most of my overseas travel has been at the pleasure of my rich uncle, thus there aren't a whole lot of stamps in my passports.

NICS stays open VERY late. The guy just didn't want to do his job, or was completely incompetent; in most states, the CCW pre-empts the need for a NICS check to begin with, and the DL suffices for the ID required.

Then again, you live in the NE, so your rights may be a wee bit more restricted than those of us in "free" states.
CT NICS POC is the State Police Special Licensing and Firearms Unit. Open till 7 on weeknights and 5 on saturdays. There is an automated system, open 24/7, for permit holders, but when the office isn't staffed it goes down regularly and issues delayed (temp denial) responses.

I'm assuming he went to East Hartford. It's not usually their policy either.

I bet the salesman renewed his permit recently (or knows somebody who did) and got asked for his passport/birth certificate, and thought that you have to present it to buy a gun.

Michigan post Marchish 2006 issued CCW's do not require an NICS call in for long guns... Cabelas doesn't care.. they call it in anyway... As does Gander Mountain and most of the other big box stores...

Passports afforded as ID and citizenship (work) status

Passports are afforded as government issue photographic identification. There are also the cheaper ID wallet cards that are also issued by DOS, which will accomplish the need for limited international travel

Example: Immigration requires form I-9 to be completed and verified by the employer to determine identity and work ability status to hold employment in the U.S. A driver's license and social security card will usually do, but a U.S. passport will do both.

Incidentally, governmental issued photo identification, for purposes of said I-9, need not be domestic. Go figure.

Yea, wearing the EGA will get you a lot of places, some of them you really don't want to be!! :D

lol, i seriously don't know how a Canadian is suppose to look like but anyhow I don't think you need to look American to buy a gun :D

Mine too...back when he was actually rich. These days he's living on debt he can't pay afford to back...oops, I meant, that we can't afford to pay back (but will have to anyway) :fire:

No, but you have to be at least a legal "resident alien." A passport would show citizenship. A DL doesn't prove citizenship in all states (don't know about CT). Judging by your small grammatical errors in your typing - do you have an accent?
