After reading several different threads on pricing I now realize that I paid way to much for my 870P. I just bought an Remington 20" 870 barrel with rifle sights. And now on another thread I just read that I wasted my money buying this barrel. What is even worse than all of the above is that I still can't hit the barn even when I'm inside the barn. :)... I think I will buy a Glock, then I will have a reason for missing the target and because it is a Glock people will think that I know what I'm doing. :)

Fastlane, you're on the right track. Now work on the software.

First, I'm sure the 15-20 deer I checked in over the last decade or so with a 20" RS barrel(Though the rear had been removed and a peep mounted) would be surprised to find out they died from the wrong barrel.

As for pricing, live and learn. I've owned a few guns that were overpriced, including a Colt Officer's Model that should have been painted yellow.

At least you've something that works, not the case with that Colt.

Read the pertinent 101 threads and see if that helps.

Also, feel free to PM me a phone number and when to call. I'll be glad to take a little time and see if I can get you over the first hurdles....

Fastlane, don't know what you paid but apparently the P's are a good bit higher than the stamdard Express, and a bit heavier. Some prefer them enough to pay the extra. Many say the plain ole $250 model will do it all.
Me? I'm still trying to find out, want a new shottie bad, trying to decide which one. Local dealer has black factory hi-cap 870 marked $329, think I can get it for $300. But saw a standard black 18"? 870 @ Gander Mtn for $289 IRRC, but the blue and wood deer gun 870 felt nice too; rifle sights, cyl bore, $279. Thinkin' I might have to "pare" the foreend a little anyway, like SM talks about.

Decisions, decisions!!!!

Listen to Dave, he knows. Several other good ones here, too!

Stay safe, have fun, and BA/UU/R

Don't sweat that first purchase price. I paid too much for my first 870, but the second one was quite a bit less and the third, less than that etc., so......if I average them, I'm doing OK! ;)
As for rifle-sighted barrels, all of my 870's wear them and they all work well, for me. I only shoot casually and the clays that disintegrate in front of my 870's never seem to care that they were wacked with a SG equipped with rifle sights.
Practice with what you've got and pay attention to men who've thrown more lead down range than some battelships.
Good luck and I'm sure I'm not alone in looking forward to your improved SG skills.

Things done right:

1) Bought an 870. Even though you might have paid too much you have the best pump gun around and the P model is much preferred over the Express for fit and finish IMHO.

2) Bought a 20" rifle sight barrel. I don't care for bead sights on a predator control shotgun and am much better with the rifle sights. I put a set of Hi Viz on my 20" barrel and I am almost as fast with them as a bead.

3) Sought advice from Dave McC and about what to do next.

4) Sought the advice before buying a Glock. If you trade in the 870 on a Glock then you won't have done anything right. ;)

To stay on the right track: BA/UU/R

Thanks for the advice and support and a special thanks to Dave. I would never trade my 870 for a Glock, was trying to inject some humor into my post. Again thanks for the support, I will try to do better on my next purchase :).

You're very welcome. I was serious about calling you. Free long distance and all that on my cell....
