could this have happened 30+ years ago or would have some potential V instead of saving him/herself have stepped up and neutralized this perp?

how bout the willingness to "go slow" during a crime scene investigation b/c of fear of a "rush to justice" argument later

how bout overweight, poorly trained, and out of condition law enforcement running around w/ AR15's (watching the video of these 270+ lb officers running w/ assault rifles is painful)

how bout NOT HAVING A PLAN AFTER 9/11?

how bout not having the proper people to enforce that plan?

I can accept you can do everything well and NOT avoid disaster, but is there anyone on this board who feels local law enforcement is capable of handling a SERIOUS situation.

Isn't this like the grandmother in ATL that was escorting the charged rapist who allowed him to get her gun and shoot a Judge and clerk?

We have gotten so politically correct you are not allowed to say a female cannot adequately subdue a perp OR God forbid you bring up the fact that an officer that is morbidly obese cannot perform the functions of his job.

It is clear that there are NUMEROUS examples that demonstrate we are asleep at the wheel. I can tell you that public schools have turned into GANG recruitment facilities in most big cities.

The fabric of society is not fiberglass. It is more like soft linen and it will not take much (hurricane, bird flu pandemic, flood, or etc.) to cause it to unravel to a kill or be killed scenario.

How many more incidents are we going to have to witness b/f we practice vigilance with regard to issues of safety.

Counterpoint - 10 years ago there would be nobody even thinking of "if only 1 person had a gun". All of the political rehtoric would be directed at new bans as the only solution, not the discussions of empowerment we see today.

Soft? Maybe, but I think we already hit the low point and as a society may be starting on the road to recovery.

We had our hurricane, and parts of society did unravel. Other parts stuck together and got tough.

It may be another ten years before things get into good shape, but we certainly are not at the end of our rope.
