When I was younger we were cleaning out an old barn for new owners and using a tractor with scrape blade to pull junk out and unearthed a old revolver.... Looked like an early S&W service .38 pretty rusty though!

Owner called Sheriff and they came and looked at it.....and said well about 20 years ago there was a murder here...no weapon found.....until possible now he chuckled!

And took it away.......

Me? Never. However my brother found a 20ga double barrel in his pump-house. "Found" is a bit strong as it wasn't completely out of nowhere, but he had gotten engaged and until their house was finished being built he and his fiance moved into her parents' old trailer that had been unlived in for quite a few years. Most of the place was empty but there was still some miscellaneous stuff in the shed and various places. He went out into the pump house one day and it the shotgun was sitting in there. He took it out and asked about it and apparently his fiance's dad (now his father-in-law) had lost that gun nearly 10 years ago. He told him to just keep it. It was rusted, but it was under a roof so it wasn't directly out in the rain and such. For a gun forgotten in a semi-exposed environment for nearly a decade the thing didn't clean up too bad, and still shoots fine. He uses it a lot for squirrel hunting now.

Many years ago ( while deer hunting) I found a Colt 32 Auto (from the early 1900's)
Metal in poor shape but gun would fire.
Also while hunting found a colt woodsman in fair shape--it also worked pretty good. some kid probably real unhappy.
I never have got around to working on them--maybe someday.

Hundreds.

Mostly AK's, but a few HK's, One FAL, a Beretta 32, Lamma .380 1911 Copy, US Property 1911, few .38's, Enfields, HK flare pistol, Muskets, Mausers, RPG7's, Grenades, Mortars...

Wish I coulda brought back that Lamma and the Detective special.
The Lamma was Engraved in Gold leaf and Panthers, the Dick was Gold rather than Blued...

But Bush gets Sadam's Hi Power!

A friend of mine had a small rental house where the tenent passed away a couple of years ago. While cleaning the junk out, we found a 20 ga. single shot and a Marlin Glenfield/60 (?) .22 rifle. Both were in good condition and just needed cleaning. My friend kept the shotty for "home defense" and I got the .22.
My elderly mother is now using it to pop muskrats and snakes on her property.
:D

An unregistered Thompson that was thrown out alongside the road, hadn't been out there very long, as it wasn't very rusted. The local Sheriff's department loved that one, they never did figure out where it came from. :what:

A single shot .22 rifle left in an apartment by a tenant, was able to get it back to him eventually.

My brother in law found a .40 S&W Sigma hidden in a rental house after the female tennant skipped out owing him money. He figured it had belonged to her crack head boy friend so he kept it to cover back rent. It shoots very well and I gave him a box of .40 ammo for Christmas.

When I was a kid my uncle and I found a 10/22 leaning against a tree on the family farm. Never did figure out where it came from but he sure liked it. I should ask if he still has it, that was 20 years ago or so.

An M16-xx While SCUBA Diving in the Kapiti Marine Reserve in New Zealand. About 2 clicks offshore, roughly 80ft down. Looked like it had been there at least 10yrs. Covered in Barnacles and crud. Still had a half a mag in it. Was confiscated by Police when we got back to the boat ramp. Fisheries officers were doing random inspections and when they saw it thier eyes damn near bugged out of thier heads. Had the rozzers there faster than you could say "but officer, I found it. Honest!" 2hrs of questioning later I left without my find.

I found a 10 gauge turkey gun laying in an intersection on my way home from college years ago. I turned it in and 3 months later the officer called me & said I could have it since the owner never claimed it. The paperwork was just like buying it but a lot cheaper. The best part was winning the bet a buddy made - he said I'd never see it again and the police would keep it. I was glad he was wrong, it was a good hunter.

Twice.
First time was around 1966 or so. I found an old single-shot 12ga in the basement of a house out in the sticks, which I was helping to refurbish.
Second was a loaded S&W .32 revolver still in its pocket holster. I found that one in my step-father's old house when he was moving out of it. He'd been in the house for over 30 years and never knew it was there. The gun was in the attic, lying beside an attic access hatch.

.

i never have, but my buddy once found an almost brand new Winchester SX2 turkey gun on the side of the road in a management area during turkey season...someone must have put it on top of their truck then drove off...poor guy

Yes. When I was 10 I found an old extremely rusty revolver under our old house. Couldn't tell what it was due to it's condition. But I could plainly see Wells Fargo on the grips. I think the bbl was 3" but the rust was so bad the cylinder not only wouldn't turn, I couldn't see from one side to the other at either end of the cylinder. I took it to school with me and traded for an old first basemans mitt.

My uncle bought a house around 1995 or so, and found a Sig P226 9mm on the top shelf of one of the closets. It was in like new condition. Very nice pistol. I was jealous! Every time me or a family member bought a house after that, I have always gone around checking all the nooks and crannies for guns or other cool stuff. :) I never had my uncle's luck. I don't know that I'd want to though, as he died in a plane crash several years ago. :(

Twice.
A cheap .22 revolver with a barrel loose enough to turn by hand.
and a Colt Commander in .45 that the police said was stolen. It was returned to a v. happy owner.

I just found a gun.

My buddie and I found a rifle in a old renovated hospital he purchased from his wifes family. So,not knowing what he has we took this old,old rifle to the local gun place. Couldent Identify it. Historical society. Nada. What we have found is the rifle sais 12 Wagenhorst. 30 somthing inches long. Weighs about 30lbs plus. I dont know where to post some pictures to get help with identification. It has a peep sight on it and seems the caliber is 50 or over. It has two triggers. Most pieces are embelished except for the wood.

When I was a kid, a friend and I were playing under an old creek bridge. We
found two 1893 lever action Winchester shotguns and two 1906 Winchester .22s and a bunch of private papers in a gunny sack. They were stolen and dumped from a local gunsmith. He was so happy to get it all back that he gave us each a half box of .410 shells apiece.

When I was about 19 I found a .32 cal Iver-Johnson revolver in a river near my home. It was actually in pretty nice shape with 3 unfired rounds still in the gun. Dad and I turned it over to the police since we were pretty sure it was a "crime gun". Never heard anything more about it though.

When I was a teenager my buddy's brother got his first car, an old 50-something Chevy, from a farmer for like, $50 or so. While cleaning it up he found an 1892 Marlin lever action rifle in the trunk under some gunny sacks, and he gave it to my buddy Mark. Mark still has it, it was chambered in .32 short rimfire. We refinished the wood and he had a gunsmith make a centerfire firing pin for it, it shot good but we never could get it to feed rounds correctly.

Yup

Driving a 2-lane road in West Texas 7-8 years ago, saw something on the shoulder just outside a small town. Thought it looked like a gun, so I turned around and confirmed it. Single Six in good condition.
Took it over to the local Justice o' the Peace, just in case... who proceeded to fondle and handle it, perfectly destroying any prints it may have had, had it been determined to be used in a crime. It wasn't, and it was to be returned to me if no one claimed it.
Never saw it again.:(

I once found a Ruger Single Six, early model, that I had actually bought but totally forgotten about. It turned up in its case in a box when I was sorting junk out years later.

It was fun! Up to a point, memory loss is great.
