I was watching a shooting show on tv last week and they showed
a new "shortened" buttstock for Remington 870's, it was designed to work better in confined space and for quicker handling, it looked pretty good, it was made of black synthetic
w/ a nice recoil pad, retails for around $60.00 it looked at least
2" inches shorter than the standard riot gun stock.

A good idea,Captain, especially for those of us not up to NFL lineman size.

It's easier to shoot with a short stock than one a little long. My TB runs close to 15" LOP and I could go longer on a trap stock, but the 13" LOP or so on the 20 gauge 870YE for the kids can be worked OK. Feels funny but I can do it.

Good fit means more comfort and better hitting. Both can mean more time shooting, leading to better hitting yet.

All you need is a flat head screwdriver with a long shaft and your in business.

Classified00, here's how.

Using a #1 Phillips screwdriver, take off the recoil pad from the old stock. Using a long flat blade screwdriver, unscrew the stock bolt until it and the stock come off. Use the hardware to mount the new stock.Screw the pad on and you're done.

A caveat, wedging the screwdriver between the head of the stock bolt and the wood while turning can bust the wood out. Be careful.

A suggestion, while the stock is off use a light coat of good lube like CLP or SLIP 2000 on the rear of the receiver.

HTH....
