Heard the most annoying thing at work last night...

A younger 30's guy who had been in the millitary, brought up guns since it is no secret I enjoy guns.

"Yeah, I liked the 10mm Glock while I was in the military, I could hit a man sized target at 500 yards while standing with that thing no problem."

Me: "Are you sure you don't mean 50 yards?"

"No man, 500 yards, I could out shoot people that had AR's..."

Ugh... I tried to stay away the rest of the night...

What, that's no big deal. Just tilt the weapon up until you can see the top of the ejection port, and fire.

Knew a guy who swore up and down he could hold a 3 inch group with a Tec-9 at 100 yards with a full magazine.

Do Tec-9s even function a full magazine?

WKW, That reminds me of my boss. He makes claims like that also. But he is always making excuses not to go shooting with me and the other guys and gals.

To this situation I can relate to. I work in a office but doing unoffice type work but shoot the bull with a lot of me fellow workers both men and women.

I got this one guy telling me one day that he can out shoot most High power shooters with his old Remington .22lr bolt action than them with their 5k M16s(I know I know his words not mine). So I asked him to go shooting with me to show me some pointers. So we took just his gun (no need to make him sweat with some of the sticks I got) and get to shooting.

Long story short, he was shooting a group the size of a pie plate (25yds) at the start of the day, but before the sun went down I had him snapping in and doing some dry firing drills, and cut that group down to about the size of a Dixie cup.

Point, the braggart is now more enlightened (took time to preach the 2A little) and not so much braggart now.

DM, I think that in some branches, particularly the marines, you can choose a sidearm that you own as opposed to the M9 for combat situations. The M9 is only needed for official functions.

I asked him if he wanted to go out sometime to the range actually... but that was before he told me what he was capable of doing.

He already had excuses though, he has no gun, and there is no way he could use my Glock 22, just not the same. And all his spare time is spent with his kid, who he shares custody with his ex-wife, but he is never at her place... but he spends all his time with the kid... even though the kid is sometimes at her place... yeah, I should have known not to talk to him after that.

I would ask your dubious source for linkage on that claim. I've never heard of an individual Marine's opinion on the M9 being of much concern to his chain of command. You get an M9 if you can get one, and you'll be happy for having a BUG. We got all kinds of dire warnings about bringing personal weapons to the fight.

Not saying bringing extra doesn't happen, but usually only people with gold on their collar get away with it and keep their toys.

Teuf, it was from a few of my friends with parents in the Marines. Of course, the M9 was always "chosen", but they "had the choice."

I don't know if this in on-thread or not, but here it goes. The cousin of a buddy of mine told me that he killed a whitetail buck, with a bone stock military type 8mm Mauser 98 rifle, open sights, with military type FMJ ammunition, at 850 yards, one shot, one kill. I asked him if he had any witnesses to this feat of marksmanship. He said no. I then asked him if he wanted to go to the gun range with that rifle and shoot it, and he also said no. I have found that the "put up or shut up" approach works well to weed out the braggarts.
