I did a search for hearing protection, but only found one thread that was a complaint about s specific product.

I have a set of ear muffs from a lifetime ago. I'm pretty sure hearing protection has advanced over the years. Can anyone suggest some of the better products to consider buying?

Are "ear muffs" better than "ear plugs", or vice versa?

Are there any devices that maybe use electronics to allow you to hear ordinary conversation, but still block the loud noise and pressure?

In a quick search on the internet, I found products priced from around $20 to $60 or so. If price was no concern whatever, is one of these considered "the best" in today's world?

(I should add that I am simply asking for what is "best" for handgun target shooting at the local gun range. That is the application - not hunting, or use with rifles.)

Here's the short summation -

Wear properly fitting ear plugs under muffs.
Make sure that your safety glasses allow the pads of the muffs to seal well.
If you want to be able to hear instructions use good quality electronic earmuffs from an industrial safety manufacturer instead of trying to save money instead of your hearing.
"Best" electronic muffs for the money are the Howard Leight Impact Sports.

Hi again - if you're the moderator here, can you delete, or "hide" this thread? I don't know why the other threads didn't show up when I did the search, but now that I've found them, this thread is no longer needed...... or, if you think it's useful, keep it here.
