hearing protection in really cold weather?

I couldn't get one surefire to fit one ear/canal properly, and I tried, and tried. Different sizes, etc. My ENT said I had a very strange left ear canal.

I use the Peltor plugs, the green side in at indoor ranges, and the yellow side in at outdoor ranges, and my electronic muffs over them, turned-up only loud enough to hear what I want to. It's a bugger to get the left Peltor in, however.

I guess a link would be helpful...

One of the worst for me has to be a 357 magnum for some reason when those fire it seems to hit a frequency that cut threw the most.

So there is a 'sticky' that I and others contributed to on this site noting the best way to insert foam plugs. I've done a lot of loud/actions sports and hobbies and swear by the foam plug AND where possible electronic muffs as well. Check the thread out and see if it helps you.
