Hey guys, I'm thinking about buying a P7M8 but I'm torn between that and a Mark 23.

I like to P7 cause it's super small and no longer in production so kinda would be kinda nice to have one and maybe I can get a Mark 23 a little but down the road.

Give me some feedback here.

P7 is an amazing gun...VERY accurate due to its fixed barrel, even a novice shoots better with it. Recoil is nicely subdued due to gas piston system. Very reliable, but you must use jacketed rounds to avoid getting junk in the gas piston area. Its safety system is probably one of the best on any pistol...the squeeze cocker is great for taking the gun to a firing state, yet keeping the gun in a safe state when you DON'T want it to go off.

I made the mistake of getting one as my first pistol. That's like getting a Mercedes as your first car without realizing what a nice car it is compared to many others...Then your spoiled for life.

While it is a great one, there are some negatives. Magazines are very expensive. Holsters that are good are also expensive. If you shoot a lot of rounds through it at one session, it will get hot due to the gas system...sometimes too hot to continue shooting for a moment. While the gun is small and slim, it is also relatively heavy for its size due to its solid steel construction compared to guns that have a lower made from plastics.

Overall, I don't regret my purchase for a moment. If you can find one at a good price, get one.

If you are just looking for a good gun that's accurate enough for self defense, nothing dramatic, then a simple striker fired model like a Glock, or XD, or several others will be sufficient. Not special, just sufficient, and you will keep more of your hard earned dollars. If you are not famililar with the Glock, be VERY careful. It will do just what it is designed to do if your finger tweaks the trigger. It will go off. Don't put your finger on the trigger of a Glock unless you intend to fire it. Sounds obvious, but it seems that Glocks are the ones most involved in unintentional discharges...

I waited a long time to increase my level of firearms experience before also getting a Glock. The Glock is good, the P7 is better

I've fired a Glock 17 quite a bit. I'm thinking of getting the P7 more as a collectors piece. The kind of gun I can baby but not really fire too much. I have a Glock 22 for personal defense. To add to that, I'm from Canada so it's just in my house. Don't carry it or anything like that.

Appreciate the response.

The p7 is cool because its classic and an amazing design and not something you see every day.

the Mk.23 is cool if you play counterstrike

The HK P7M8 is an awesome bit of German engineering. One you take off the grips and look at the squeeze-cocker mechanism, you'll think it's more a fine watch than a firearm. Beautiful, accurate, novel cocking mechanism, everyone should have one or three.

The HK MK23 is a hefty pistol, kinda like an old diesel Mercedes (If the P7M8 is a BMW). They're two different types of guns. It's too big for my hands so I'll never buy one.

Buy the one that you think about most. Just because the P7M8 is no longer being manufactured doesn't mean that you need to buy it now, because it (probably) still will not be manufactured if you want one next year or 5 years from now. You'll only be able to buy used no matter what.

dude, i have just about every hk pistol commercially available.

would you consider a USP or USP compact for target / self-defense-ccw / everyday use? i think you'd get more bang for yer buck.

the p7m8 (9mm) is a nice pistol great for concealed carry. but it's relatively heavy, bookoo bucks, and it gets HOT when you shoot it.

the mk23 (.45 ACP) is an interesting tack-driver. but it's also bookoo bucks and honking HUGE. not terribly practical for everyday concealed carry, unless you are 8 feet tall. this is more of a collector's piece and a fun gun (to shoot with a suppressor) than a practical CCW.

I love P7s

and have a few. I had one hard chromed and I carry it alot. It is slim and just fits along my hip. I have a REALLY good belt and holster and that keeps the gun in place. It is heavy, but I shoot it very well.

Great gun and someone should bring it back. I want some more of them.

So...I just bought the P7 today....gotta wait a couple days to pick it up though. pretty excited.

You mean you just bought your FIRST P7 today. They are crack cocaine.

Yeah, next thing you'll be looking for PSP's, then M13's, and who knows, maybe even an M10.

Best of luck and enjoy the new pistol!

I've got a P7M8, then had to get a P7 PSP. Both are great pistols. Right now the German police trade in PSP's are a great deal. Its a similar pistol to the M8 with a heal mag release and shorter trigger guard. Other than that its the same. Well its also missing the plastice heat shield, but that's no big deal. Save some money and get a PSP, then follow it up with a USP Tactical .45 instead of the MK 23. The savings getting a PSP over the M8 and the Tactical over the MK 23 will be huge. In fact you can buy both and still spend much less than the MK 23.

Always wanted one, but price kept me away till the P7PSP's came available. Best gun purchase I ever made. Mags are expensive, but as long as I have three I'm good. Its strickly a range gun, and firing to much to fast does present a heat problem, but its just swo cool of a gun and dead accurate. Its been worth every penny. Just remember one thing not mentioned already, if you reload 9MM, you can't reload any fired by a P7 due to the fluted chamber. It leaves the flute marks upon firing.

So what's a good deal on a P7M8 or P7PSP right now? I'd like to get one, but I've seen them anywhere from $650 to $2,000. Is there a huge difference in quality between A-level and B-level?

P7 m10 (.40 s&w) is my dads. he loves that gun, sometimes i think, he loves it more then me. it is the most acurate gun he has ever shot. i think the reason he hasn't pulled it out for me to shoot is cause he doesn't want me to appropraite it. just if you carry be aware of the sqeeze cocker, don't end up like the illinos police. "stop or i'll shoot myself!"
the other one he won't let me appropreate is the Mk 23. also an awsome pistol, great fun to shoot and is always kept loaded in the safe as the second go to gun for dad. great for the range but not a CCW peice (i think dad did a couple times, just to say he could).
the only downsize to both is that they are pricey and the P7 are no longer in production.
BTW if you ever come across the .45, give me a jingle. the holy grail. of course i could never afford the darn thing.

Errornet "BS"! The marks are just powder residue. They clean up, resize, and reload as well as anything else. Brass from a high powered rifle with fluted chamber may be another story.

HK P7 M10 Condition Rating?

Anyone know the proper way to evaluate and state the condition of a Heckler and Koch P7 M10? A local rangemaster checked mine out recently and said it was 'museum quality, 99%', but if I put it up for sale I want to be sure I represent it accurately. Also, should I include all 5 mags, 2 speedloaders, holster/shoulder rig, and the rest of the associated stuff in any offer?

So...I just bought the P7 today....

I remember saying that, then saying I just bought my second, then saying I picked up my third, and wishing I could get another. They are nice guns, and built when handguns were "built"...out of steel. I am one of those who actually appreciates the extra weight. Who knows, If you carry it, you may actually have to use it. That little bit of weight helps reduce recoil.

So what's a good deal on a P7M8 or P7PSP right now? I'd like to get one, but I've seen them anywhere from $650 to $2,000.

If you buy used, look on the HK Forums
http://www.parkcitiestactical.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=forum;f=10
and another
http://hkpro.com/

You can find some very good deals on these sights. I have seen P7M8's go for as little as 1K, and PSP go for as little as about 600. These are the low prices and not the averages.

Tribal:

I just bought this CDNN P7 PSP a week ago. It was a Grade "A" @ $674.25. Since HK grades their pistols on internal wear vs cosmetic wear I consider the extra $75 for a Grade "A" over the "B" grades as money well spent.

Extra "as new" (factory demo) magazines are available for $39.99. I bought one of those too, and it appears to be just as new as the magazine that came in the pistol. Both mags function perfectly.

My PSP internally looked absolutely new, as if it had never been fired. (I've since corrected that deficiency)...

My PSP has functioned perfectly and is EXTREMELY accurate, and I'm so pleased with it I'm now trying to come up with the money to buy another..

I've dealt with CDNN in the past, and have always been more than pleased with the transactions. Neal was my salesman, and he was very professional and courteous.. Please ask for him if you give them a call. :)

Best Wishes,

Well i am a huge P7 fan. From the picture below it should pretty much explain it. You should also notice that i also own the Mark 23:) I consider myself an average shooter but when i shoot any P7, i shoot at an expert level. I just dont know what happens. And you will hear similar comments from anyone that has shot the P7.

I own a P7M8 AG code that does not get shot, and 2 P7PSP that are my range and carry guns. I love the Mark 23 just for the show off factor. It also sits on my night stand.

Anybody know anything about importing the guns to Canada. My P7M8 Cost be like $2300 after taxes and our dollar is stronger than the US right now. I'd totally buy one if there was a way to get even a PSP for under $1000

Own both and both are great shooting pistols, also have a like new PSP on the way right now and hope to add a P7M13 soon.

Another good collectable HK pistol is the P9S, they have a pretty neat roller delayed design (similar to the G3 and MP5) and are also great shooters, you can get them in 9mm and 45acp, though 45acp model can be pretty hard to find.

No M13 I see Gixerman........I finally win.....bwhahahahahahaha :evil::neener:

Sorry about that, its just that between him and Lunde they own ever freaking firearm ever created and frankly I don't like it.

Just kidding or course. I now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

As for the P7 series, awesome pistols all of them.
