Hi everyone, After months of lurking (and getting a lot of great information) I finally registered. So here's the first post.
I picked up a Ruger Mk II Government Target model a couple of nights ago. 5.5" bull barrel, blued, adjustable sights and Pachmyer grips. It was made in 1987 but aside from some minor wear on the side of the barrel by the muzzle it looks pristine, as do the 2 magazines. Either it wasn't shot much or the previous owner was as obsessive about cleaning as I am. $260 out the door included a good quality pistol case. Hope I did OK on the price.
Managed to put a few hundred rounds through it yesterday before an ice storm hit the area. The Super-X fed perfectly, no matter how fast I pulled the trigger. The Thunderbolt lead bullets had a couple of FTEs/FTFs. Both types of ammo were accurate and I haven't even messed with the sights yet. The best part is that it was comfortable in my wife's tiny hands and my larger than average ones and shot equally well for both of us. Our best groups were less than 2" offhand at 25 yards. We're no great handgun shots, so obviously the Mk II was doing its job.
This is my first autoloader in about 20 years. The last one was a Ruger Mk I that I sold to a friend. It's been revolvers ever since. Obviously, I've been missing out on a lot of fun. I'm not concerned about cleaning. I could reassemble that Mk I with no problem so now that I'm in my 50s and more patient, I should be able to deal with the persnicketty aspects of assembly. (I hope.)
Any comments or suggestions would be welcome.

PS: The only downside is that after 20 years of revolvers, I keep thinking the Mk II is empty after 6 shots.
