I just joined the forum, looks like a good place. I'm a Cowboy Action Shooter, Pulp, SASS28319, and I shoot Frontiersman most of the time. I currently have a pair of '47 Walkers, a '51 something(it's brass framed and .44 caliber, so it ain't a Navy:)) a '60 Colt and a '63 Baby Remington .31 caliber.
Here's a little video clip of me shooting my Walkers, gunfighter style.

I made the clip for a fellow Cowboy shooter named Widowmaker Hill. He's currently has the world record for drawing and shooting two SA revolvers empty in 1.81 seconds. So I'm comin' after his record. I've only got to figger out how to shave another 26 seconds off my time.;)

A few other forums I hang out in are:

You could save some time by tying up the rammers with a strip of buckskin fringe. It period too! Tie wraps work too but not period. That'll take a few seconds off the time fer sure. you can also tighten up the rammer screw and file a deeper notch in the rammer latch.
But this i'll give hands down It takes great wrist and arm muscles to shoot those Walkers that way. That rocks.

Cowboy Action Shooter

Welcome from one newbie to another. Saved some of your links, looked interesting. Wanted to watch the video but still on dial-up here.
I'm no action shooter but have enjoyed watching it when it comes up on tv from time to time. Not an Okie but did live in Cushing in 72.

Have a question for any of you who are action shooters and catch this thread. Would an action shooter be interested in a holster like the one I have posted? If so where would be the best place to list it?

I had planned to ask this later and on an independant post but was reading yours and thought I'd ask anyhow. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Yes, it probably is a Pietta Navy. Pietta makes or made these in .44 as well as .36. They are often seen, but little appreciated like most of Pietta's less expensive stuff. It will make a good shooter for you until it gets out of time, but then parts are cheap and it can be retimed. By then, you may well want to graduate to a '60 Army by Uberti, perhaps a Remington.

I enjoyed your video.

welcome

I shot SASS for quite a few years and then got too busy. My handle is Three Cracker Jack #10453

I think if I were to shoot black powder it'd be two 1851's or two 1860's, a Uberti 1860 Winchester lever and a double barrel 12.

I shot two 45 Colt Vaquero's a Marlin Cowboy in 45 Colt and an original 1897 Wincherster 12 guage. Usually did pretty good too - always finishing towards the top and one the Mano a Mano shoot-off one year (single elimination until its just two of you) at our annual big shoot.

Tru Griff, you might want to check http://www.sassnet.com, go to the forum page, then to the classified page. I don't use the classifieds there, but you may have to be a SASS member to use it. Not sure about that, but it's in the rules one way or the other.

You're holsters are nice looking. Since they are Buscadero rigs they would be most likely used in SASS by a shooter in the B Western category, where you dress like a Hollywood Western actor.

I'm looking for a pair of California style Slim Jim holsters big enough to hold my Walkers. However, tightwad that I am, I don't want to pay big bucks for them.

Bad Flynch, I just hate to call it a Navy, when Colt never made such a critter. It is a good gun though, very light hammer for a capnball, and very accurate. My son-in-law bought it for me for Christmas a few years ago. It's usually my left hand gun for CAS because of the light hammer pull. It's also the only revolver I've used in CAS that has never missed a target, even shooting it with my left hand.

Pulp, I really appreciate the description of the holsters. I did come across one on ebay that was labeled as a Buscadero rig but I'm not familier with the terms used. It did have some similarities to this one. I thought this one was unique with the 72nd degree, Masons and Shriners emblems worked in the leather.
As you mentioned you probably have to be a member to use the classified page but I'll check. I've just started looking but I'd like to get an idea of what this would sell for so I can put it out there.
There was a fellow at a flea market years ago that had a whole box of those Slim Jim holsters and because of the length I grabbed one. They were at the most $5.00 each. I should have gotten two... . Thats what I used to carry my '58 Uberti Rem. Old Army with, now my colt. I can see where you would have trouble finding one for your Walker's. Would you have them on where you would have to cross reach to draw? With that size of pistols it would seem to be the quickest.
I finally got a chance to watch your video and enjoyed it. Your ram levers kept popping loose but you seemed to have that in control lol. What were you shooting?

The spout on my flask throws around 43 grains of FFFg Goex. That's the load I was using in the video. Topped with a .454 round ball. BTW that load averages 990 fps. Any more powder and the loading levers will drop everytime. I've also got an R&D conversion cylinder for the Uberti Walker, but in the video I was using the capnball cylinder.

Buscadero is the style with the slot cut into the belt, and the holsters go through the slot. It was invented for Hollywood. I can't recall the fellers name, but he's the one James Arness killed in the opening scene of Gunsmoke.

Old Dragon, I've tried the buckskin trick on the loading lever, but I reckon I used to thick of a strip, 'cause I couldn't see the front sight. Anyway, I'm in no way competetive in SASS, I just do it for fun. I claim to the be the "World's Worst Cowboy Action Shooter", and have the scores to prove it. I've been beaten by folks that didn't even finish the match. But if they gave awards for fun, I'd be the World Champion.
