Im currently carrying a full size 1911. Its starting to get a little heavy to walk around with all day. Im trying to decide between two guns. A CZ 75D compact in 9mm or a Glock 23 .40 caliber. While it would be nice to have the little extra punch of the 40 caliber, I personally put more faith in shot placement than caliber.

The Glock i know would be reliable and would have a very durable finish.

The CZ is more comfortable and just all around nicer looking. Anyone have any input on the durability of the CZ's finish?

are you set on a glock 23? if you don't mind 9mm i say go for the 19. imho the best glock ever made. it is cheaper to shoot/ reload, and it is the same size as the 23, and with higher capacity.

however i do have a glock 23 and love it, but my reason for having .40 is because that is what i reload, and the same caliber as all of my handguns so therefor it just makes since for me to have a .40 glock too.

Of the two, I would choose the Glock 23. My first choice for this role is the Kahr PM40.

That CZ has a horrible, long, hard, gritty trigger pull.........

Consider a Kimber Compact Lightweight Stainless if you're used to carrying a 1911.

Also consider a Kahr P-9 if you want the ultimate lightweight carry gun.

Ive been carrying a CZ rami for a while now and it still looks brand new...so id say the finish is pretty good. id go for the cz. like you said overall better looking, more comfortable for you, you can put grips on it unlike the glock, and i like having a double action first pull then very short pull after that.

I would choose the Glock. Extremely durable, very reliable, easy-to-field-strip and highly accurate. Finding extra mags, IWB holsters, etc. is also easier with the Glock.

I love my Glock 31 (.357 Sig.)

I also carry a Kahr CW-45 (single stack .45 ACP).

I'd keep the 1911.
If I was going to down grade, it would be to next largest caliber.

And yes I fully understand that shot placement is the key, but I like to have a larger shot to place correctly.:D

I dont like the .40 caliber . To me it is too snappy . I have to carry one at work because its what we are issued (Glock 22) but I would go with the CZ in 9mm . It is a great gun . I have the CZ-75B fullsize and its all steel . The only thing on the CZ is that it may be a little heavy . The Glock has AWESOME rust resistance .
If you dont mind me saying this , I say that the Glock 19 in 9mm would be great .
I have it and it is the same as the Glock 23 but in 9mm and is light weight and has a very durable finish as I stated earlier .
But out of what you posted , I pick the CZ ;);)

Voted glock 23 as its what I enjoy carrying the most, I also use a glock 26 if the 23 is to big to conceal with the clothes I happen to be wearing that day.

of those two i picked the glock.

but i have to say it.

i would prefer a lightweight 1911. an officers model or a lightweight commander in 45acp. (i carry the latter and its 28oz.)

after shooting a 1911, a glock trigger has a pull that reminds me of a plastic water pistol.

not that a 1" trigger pull is bad, it just is to me.

Pick the one that is most comfortable if you plan to wear it every day..... would you pick shoes that were uncomfortable but had large springs in them to help you jump, just on the off chance that you might want to jump high?

The one that is most comfortable will be the one you are most likely to be carrying more often.... hence, most likely to have when you need it....

I carried for years with a 686 stainless revolver.... but not very often because of the comfort factor.... I switched to a snuby .38 and I carry almost all the time now....

I suggest the Glock 36.. One frog hair thinner than the G23/19 and shoots 45ACP.. Uses the same holster as the G23/19.. Just sayin...

Why not go to a commander length 1911. Dan Wesson Commander Bobtail is a nice gun. About the same weight as the Glock 23. Nothing wrong with the Glock or CZ, but since you are used to a 1911 why not stick with it?

I really like my Dan Wesson. Hell of a gun.

The CZ75 does have a rough trigger out of the box. After 4 hours with a dremel tool and my roommates CZ had the trigger feeling much better. At least equal to a Glock's smoothness IMO. If you're afraid to detail strip you're gun, any gunsmith can fluff-n-buff it for you.

I voted for the CZ simply because I don't like glock. Matter of fact I don't like any pistol without a hammer and, I haven't seen a glock with a hammer that I can remember.

I guess I should have mentioned that I recently bought a crossbread supertuck and it makes carrying the glock a breeze. I sometimes forget that I'm wearing it.

I can't support either vote option. I also suggest a Commander (light weight) model, or even a Colt New Agent. The New Agent is so light you might think you forgot to put it on.

I've had a compact since '05 and like it a lot. The trigger will smooth out with use but I agree about the long reach in double action. Since you now carry a 1911, carrying cocked and locked is an option you are used to...problem solved. Another thing to get used to is the large grip due to the double stack mag. I put thin cocobolo grips on mine and it worked out well. The finish has held up very well over time...not even holster wear. I usually carry a S&W 642 but when I do carry the compact, the extra weight is noticable but not overwhelming. I've never had to hike my pants up because of it. I take it to the range quite a bit and it has been 100%. This gun is very reliable, tough and easily maintained.

The CZ is more comfortable
If this makes it the option you're more likely to carry as oppose to leave on the dresser at home, then it wins.

Though, as an alternative.....try looking into an alloy-framed 4" 1911, shave some weight rather than capability.

I'd like to get a 4 inch 1911 but the funds really arent there at the moment. I think its going to be the CZ. Its just a much more comfortable gun. I can always smooth out the trigger if it feels gritty.

I bet my life on a CZ P01, and a PCR, both known as the Compact D overseas. The P01 has the rail, forged alloy frame, while the PCR has Novak style sights, no rail, and is cast alloy frame. Great pistols. I carry a Glock 19 at work because I have to, but I've had 300% more Glocks fail in my hand than CZs. :)
BUT, to be fair, find the one that fits you best, test fire both if you can, and pick the winner.
"Gritty trigger"? Not in 8 CZs I've had/have.

Consider the PCR Compact. (Not mine, it ain't for sale.;)) It is lighter to carry than the all steel 75 Compact and is more of an "apples to apples" comparison to the Glock vis-a-vis weight. It has a decocker system requiring a DA first shot vs. the Compact's manual safety, but I am OK with it.

I was going to say Glock 36 that way you can feed it
ammo from the 1911 :D

Ok out of the two choices I picked the Glock 23.

The Glock 36 is really nice for ccw though.
