Does anyone here know who manufacture's 3" magnum copper plated BB shotgun shells?

I can't even find any plated BB shot to load my own, which I would be OK with if availability of high base hulls and appropriate wads are a go.

Well, cost isn't relative in this case. I will spend what ever is necessary to come up with a plated BB shot shell, or the components to load my own.

No, not bobcat, just using them to hunt turkey. I don't want this to turn into a question of why I insist on using BB, over say #4, or what ever. It's a life long recipe I have used to successfully kill dozens of turkey. I bought like 10 or 15 twenty five round boxes of 3" Rem. Nitro Mag 1-7/8 ounce copper plated BB back in the late 80's, or early 90's maybe. And between myself and others, they are almost gone, and Rem. isn't making 3" mag. copper plated BB any more.

I have a big out of state hunt coming up in late April, so I need to get my hands on two or three 25 round boxes, 4 boxes would probably be better, considering. So now I'm back at square "A" searching for other brands offering 3" mag. copper plated BB, everything so far has been out of stock. What I would really like to get my hands on is the Hormady 3" magnum 1-7/8 BB.

If I don't find some factory within the next couple weeks, I'll just buy some nickel or copper plated BB and load my own.

I'm sure you've already done this GS, but I would check the regs to make sure BB is legal in the state you are going. I know many states limit the size of shot used for turkeys in the spring to #2s or smaller. Here in Wisconsin we cannot use anything bigger than #4s. That said, I know of folks that swear by lead BB sized shot for fall turkeys, because they claim it's the only thing that will penetrate the wing feathers and consistently kill a turkey with a body shot. They claim steel BB shot meant for waterfowl will not. Because they use dogs or jump shoot birds, they feel a head shot is not always a gimme. Problem with BB loads is at longer ranges, it may produce pretty good holes in the pattern, but I'm sure, since you've used it this long, you already know this. When I first started hunting turkeys back in the 70s, there were folks that claimed that copper plated BB shot was the "Golden Bullet" for turkey, because it only took one @ 60 yards in the head to kill a bird. Problem was at that range, one was still using a wish and a prayer that a flyer would hit the bird in the head.

Seems since waterfowl loads all need to be steel, most ammo makers don't bother with lead BB anymore as there is not enough demand. While lead may be legal in the state you're venturing to, if you hunt on public land, you may still need to use steel. Seems many states are going this way and many Federal lands have been for a while. Either way good luck and safe hunting. Must be a lotta birds to need a hundred rounds!

Gander Mountain had 10# bags of copper, not sure what size it is though. If you have one close by, call first. BTW, it was NOT cheap

Looking at loaded ammo, it seems 4, 5, or 6 is what everyone is selling

Just called my friend at the LGS that has had reloading supplies thru-out most of the last two shortages. He tells me the largest copper plated lead shot he can get is #4.

Really appreciate the helps folks!

Buck460, thanks for the heads up on shot size regulations, but I've been doing this particular hunt for about 20 years, so all is good in this respect.

I'm taking multiple individuals on this hunt, at present it looks like there will be a minimum of 7 hunters, possibly 10, at 2 birds a piece, everyone having 5 shells in their magazine, 1 or 2 shots to pattern their SG's, and then possible missed shots. So the math tells me I need no less than 50 rounds, and that's if everything goes as planned. 75 - 100 rounds is just making sure I won't have an ammo shortage at any point in time. And it would give me a leg up for the fall hunt as well.
