Need help getting the slide off the frame. It's locked and I have no idea how to get it off. What can I do to get the slide off of the frame.

Maybe pull the trigger to be sure its been released and then tap the slide off with a mallet? You may do damage to the fire control parts so be sure to examine them closely if you need to use force to separate them.

(I know its too late, but I think you just found out the Gen 5 slides/frames and other generations aren’t compatible.)

Good luck!

Stay safe.

The issue you are having is that the barrel locking lugs on the Gen 5 G17 are shorter than the barrel locking lugs on the Gen 4 G17 barrel.

Can you move the slide at all?

If so, then pull the slide back just enough to release the slide lock lever and then make sure that the trigger and firing pin are in the forward/fired position. Once both are done, then the slide should come off.

Drive your locking block/trigger pin out.

That might give you a little wiggle room

That may or may not help since the rails are still molded into the frame and don't move. Now if it was a Polymer 80 frame, I would definitely say to remove all pins and lift everything up off the frame.

What has happened with the OP is that the Gen 5 G17 has shorter barrel locking lugs that have gotten bound up on the longer Gen 4 locking block.

Heavy rubber mallet. Like what is used to remove/install hubcaps at tire dealer/service station.
Masking tap on firearm surfaces to prevent marring.
