I have a Hopkins & Allen underhammer with "The Offhand" on the barrel and I'm trying find out everything I can about it. I'm brand new to black powder and I love it. I'm just curious about the history of this particular rifle. Any help is appreciated.

I remember them well!
From the interwebz Gogle machine:

George Numrich (Todays Numrich Arms / Gunparts.com)introduced his line of Hopkins & Allen underhammer rifles back in the 1950's and continued into the early 80's.

There were several models, including:
The Offhand, Target, Heritage, and Buggy.

They were offered finished or in "Kit" form.
Available calibers were .36, .45 & .50
The trigger guard is also the mainspring.

Thanks for the info.. I've already been schooled on what NOT to do so that I can keep all my fingers and my face intact... LOL

I have an H+A Heritage in .45. After hunting ML season with a Lyman GPR flinter for years, the ignition speed of the underhammer was a huge improvement for my shooting; and being a lefty, i think they are great ambidextrous guns.

They are good utility underhammers; mine fairs best with 66 grains ffg (three throws from my 22gr spout) and a patched .440 round ball.
