I have no idea what it is. It holds 15 rounds of 9mm, has s&w stamped on the baseplate and an s on the side. All metal. Any ideas?

It's for the generation of pistols from before the sigma.

I'm wondering how it ended up in my tool box since I don't remember owning nor working on one of those for a friend. Go figure.

Probably for the 59/5900 series S&W

It doesn't appear to be factory, however, but your pics aren't good enough to tell for sure. My guess is it was made by USA Magazines which are crap.

I think it has S&W on the bottom, so it may be a factory mag, and it could be for a 9mm or .40 double column, full size gun, like the 5906 as mentioned.

Yep S&W 5906, early model mag. Should have S&W stamped on the mag body somewhere. Maybe on the floor plate.

Don't think so. The "early 5906" mags were stainless and had poly base plates.

Early 659 mags were also mostly stainless and held 14 rds.

Model 59 mags were blue, but only held 14 rds.

The factory transition from 14 rd capacity to 15 rd happened in the 5904/5906 era mags.

The mag pictured is an after market. I have a POS USA brand mag marked like the one pictured.
