I got this in trade from the Father-inlaw. I traded a 20 " smooth bore, rifle sight rem 870 express barrel.

I belive it is a Taurus 82. How ever i cant find this one, and the 85 looks similar to this one as well as the 669 in 357 but i dont think they came in 38sp?

here are some pics.

one side says

Taurus - Brazil

other side

has Taurus round logo, pat #, serial # and cal. 38 special

85 is a 5 shot. 82 is a 6 shot.
85 came with 2" and 3" barrels. Yours looks like a 4".

It should be an 82. The model number may be stamped on the LH side of the frame, in front of the cylinder. (Where the crane goes when it is closed)

it does not have any of the 82 stampings or any ID marks other than Taurus and 38 special obviously. nothing on LH side other than Taurus - Brazil and not the TAURUS outlined marking.

Try this: http://www.taurususa.com/find-model.cfm

This won't always work, especially on the older guns. I had a fixed sight .357 mag 4" stainless that not even a phone call to Taurus could identify. It was a pretty nice gun with pinned barrel and recessed chambers, almost like those made by company that starts with the letter S.

The guns made for US importation could very well have different markings than those made for domestic sales, or sales to other Latin American countries. I can't say for sure.
I saw one of these today, at a gun show. I didn't see a price, and didn't look too closely, as I'm looking for an ATI 1911 4.25" barreled .45 ACP.

The Taurus 86 was a target gun with adjustable sights. What you have looks like an older Taurus 82 (note the screw at the top of the sideplate). Did you open the cylinder and look at the inside of the frame where the crane fits when closed? Taurus doesn't put a neat "Mod. 13-3" for example. They just stamp "82."

Just trying to help.

ECS

I have one similar that was my Dads. His is an older version with the striations within the cylinder flutes and is a model 80. I bought a newer version sans striations which is a model 82. Both are S&W M10 clones to a degree. Both have fixed sights.

Might be a help. Might not.

Great little shooters they are. Tauri rep not-with-standing they are rock solid.
