Hey y'all,

I've been offered a Sig P220 SAS in trade, and I'm having one heck of a time identifying it - and I'm hoping you folks can help me out.

All I have so far is this one photo, which could admittedly be better. He's taking some more this evening and sending them to me.

What should I be looking for? Obviously date marks and everything would help, but I've never seen a P220 SAS with front cocking serrations, and don't want to be buying someone's custom job.

I'll upload the additional photos as soon as I get them.

THANKS!!

Update:

Got a photo with the serial number - I'm going to call Sig and ask them!

Any info on this end would certainly be appreciated though!

I look forward to hear what they told you. On a small bet I'd guess SIG master shop did the serrations for this one.

While I understand the utility of them, in casual use they are little more than dirt traps.

So, it's amazing what you learn when you make a phone call.

This is a Sig P220 Carry SAS Gen 2. Yup, some of them have front cocking serrations and some do not. When I asked why, I didn't get a specific response.

Anyway, it's a Gen2 SAS Carry, with Sig night sights, nitron coating, SRT trigger, etc. It really does look like a Carry Elite Dark, but without the small beavertail.

(As a side note, the grammar behind Short Reset Trigger trigger bothers the bejeezus out of me.)

What would you folks put as a value on this gun? Seems to be in very good shape, was born in early 2011, minimal round count, and four mags.

Thanks!!

I bought a brand new 220 carry dark elite (da/sa) for $1187 after tax. I sold it for $700, with most of them going between $700 and $800 used.

Being its a little older, and it doesn't have the beavertail I would think it's worth around $700 for the gun. Add in the mags, and I would call it $750-$775.

Thats what I would be willing to pay.

I agree with the above estimate. A brand new 220 can be had for $800. At this time.

Well, I offered $750, he said he couldn't go lower than $900.

I said I'd do $800, and we'll see if he goes for it. It does come with four mags, so I'm willing to go that far.

We'll see what happens - there are other fish in the sea.

I paid 930 otd for my p229 sas gen 2 and 800 plus tax for full size p220. Personally I would rather have a regular p220 carry with just night sights. I couldn't tell a difference in the trigger reset from the srt to the standard and the front serrations aren't necessary. Aluminum grips make a huge difference and Wolff springs makes lighter mainsprings so the da trigger pull isn't so heavy. Used sigs usually go for 600 to 750. I bought a German 220 for 400 from a private individual. Shop around I'm sure you can find a better deal than 900.

It almost looks like they ran out of regular Carry slides to do the SAS treament to and grab some Carry Elite slides and rounded off the corners to fill an order

(As a side note, the grammar behind Short Reset Trigger trigger bothers the bejeezus out of me.)
That's because they don't include punctuation in their description and you've taken it (bolded above) to refer to the trigger.

The SRT refers to only to the action parts, not the trigger. Short refers only to the SA Reset of the trigger mechanism, not to the trigger. Their Short Trigger would be more accurately described as their Thin Trigger

I was gonna say it should be short return travel, just to cure the redundancy.

Anyway it is a nice gun; new street price will be about $900, I think. It comes with 2 sig mags new, and those are hard to find and expensive.

That said, at above $800 I'd walk, unless it really trips your trigger. You could get a p229 .40 CPO for a lot less, and it is pretty close to the carry, although the rounded edges on the carry are groovy (and a neat feature that makes the gun unique).

Its a parts gun... as mentioned Sig ran out of the real SAS slides and slapped something else they had lying around to push the metal out the door. It does not make it a bad pistol or undesirable pistol but it is a parts gun worth less than the true SAS Gen 2 guns. IMHO

I don't think the front-serrated slide changes the value. One could make a case that it should be more valuable, because someone likes to press check, or because it's a collectible off-spec. In reality, it's a difference without distinction.

Not a parts gun, really. If it's a factory SIG, lock stock and barrel, with the same fit and tolerances, the rest is cosmetics.
