Someone please help me out with this one. I just bought a Marlin Model 48 12 gauge pump SG and got what I think is a good deal considering it refuses to "PUMP" shells into/out-of the chamber.
What might be keeping this SG from "shucking" shells?

Any - all info or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

the 48 is a high dollar variant of the 98 pattern. google marlin collectors to find a website with a shotgun section in which you can ask the experts. i have a few 98 pattern guns, but have not experienced your failure. i would imagine that the shells are being held in the mag tube by the spring retainer, which should be disconnecting on the rearward stroke.

be also aware that marlin has officially recalled all of these 98 pattern guns for safety reasons. there is a bolt block that locks the bolt in place when the bolt is forward. if part of this assembly fails to operate correctly, you could be taking a dirt nap on your first shot. learn how to tell if yours is working correctly before you pull the trigger.

Marlin model 48....

I do appreciate your response. You mention that the 48 is a high dollar variant of the 98 pattern.
I've been googling the model 48 for the last 30 minutes but fail to come up with anything.

Might this be a fairly, reasonable that is, expensive firearm? One that has some value?

By the way what you mention "bolt locks the bolt forward..." might this be the problem with this model 48?

Thanks sincerely!!!

Marlin Model 48

Well now to add further to the mystery around this SG I phoned Marlin. Real fine fellow named Chris tried to gather info for better than 15 or 20 minutes but came up empty??? Even Marlin has no record of this model. He then put me on hold again and called the marlin historian. She too found nothing on a model 48 which causes a bit more mystique around this SG.

Now in case anyone may be thinking I'm plain crazy... Please understand that this SG is in darn near excellent shape. The model 48 as well as the serial number are EXTREMELY clear and legible, VERY easy to read. No mistakes on that count.
Overall it's a beautiful SG that's hammerless unlike many of those I'm seeing on-line.
I don't know what to think about this SG other than I'm real happy to have it despite the frustration it's causing me at this time.
Please keep any/all info coming 'cause I need the help.
Thanks gents!!
