Help me figure out my carry strategy

You're initial strategy seems okay!!

If you are really intent on going the 3 "layered" strategy then you simply could not do much better than the three CZ's you mentioned. I have both the CZ 75 and the P-01 and, from my point of view, one could carry the P-01 and be done with it. Of course carrying the RAMI as a BUG might be an idea but, as I have yet to see or feel a RAMI, can't really say that. I carry the P-01 as my one and only carry gun and am really satisfied with it. However, as I said earlier, if the 3-layer strategy is your direction then the CZ is the way to go (provided that the RAMI lives up to expectations). Good shooting;)

Wheelman,
A guy asking questions about CCWing CZ's....I already like you. Well...Ill fill you in on what I do......

My EDC gun is a PCR.....my always gun is a KT P11 in my weak hand pocket. I go as high as CZ Fullsize/1911 when I feel the need.

I do have 3 levels of carry but have 2 with me on most days. There are times when I only have the KT in my pocket.....if thats the case its in my strong side pocket. But its a rarity.

Ive carried Snubs, Kahrs and KT's as pocket guns..and all are stellar...
The guys who say get a 32 or 380 for the pocket...more power to them, it beats having no gun at all.

The Rami is gonna test your deep concealment abilities..its the same size as a Baby Glock in most regards. It will be easier to conceal than the PCR, which IVE YET TO GET MADE with mine, but should be a little harder to put ammo where you want it with the same proficiency.

Welcome to the world of CCW....in one word its "COMPROMISE"......in regards to guns, ammo, carry styles and dress.

Shoot well and yell at me when you become a CZOPHILE...I can assist you with your holster needs quite well..............

PleaZZZZ Saying the P-01 adds weight or bulk over a PCR or Compact??
I'd say that in a proper CZ holster (HBE) you don't notice it.

As for the RAMI being reliable. I don't think that they (CZUB) would
field a product that is not 100% reliable with FMJ ammo.

Think of one CZ that is not reliable..

You can carry anything concealed as long as you are willing to make the compromises necessary to do so.

My humble advice is to save yourself a lot of time and money and make sure at least one of those guns is a J Frame sized revolver, Smith, Colt, Ruger, even Taurus although I am not a big fan of them.

My reason is this. You can and very well may pack a full or medium size handgun very easily but this will require you to have a dress routine that you must follow and frankly there are times when you just don't want to go through the trouble of putting on the holster and mag pouches and proper belt and the covering garment etc. When those times happen and I promise they will, you will come to understand the wisdom of a tiny little J Frame sized revolver.

Light weight, even the all steel ones are not that bad to pocket carry but the aluminums are a joy.

Very potent. .38+P, .357magnum, .44 Special none of these are anything to scoff at and are much more comforting then say a .32 or .380.

As a rule extremely reliable.

Throw it in your pocket easy of carry. Any half decent pocket holster will do. All year all clothing friendly.

Good double action trigger with no external doodads to fool with under stress.

If you get a model capable of single action cocking, nothing quite beats a single action revolver trigger should you need precision.

Very corrosion resistant in stainless guise.

Very easy to unload to clean and wipe down after carrying. I find this is a big one. You should always wipe down your carry gun after every instance of carrying to get any sweat or other stuff off of it. With an auto that means dropping the mag, unchambering the round and reversing to reload. This can cause bullet setback and is generally a PITA. With a revolver just drop the rounds wipe down, throw rounds back in and you are ready to go. Sure some people may not unload their gun while wiping it down but to me that just isn't safe.

Anyway all your choices will work if you want them to. Heck I have carried a SIG P220ST around concealed and that is one big honking gun but when it comes right down to it I think it is very hard to beat a snubby revolver for a civillian carry gun any time all the time. Extra ammo can be carried in speed loaders, speed strips or simply loose in the pocket. Reloads are not as fast but the versitility is there and remember the first rule is to have a gun and a gun that is both easy to pack and relatively potent makes chances pretty good that you will have a gun.

Just for the record I am not against tiny autos such as the KAHRs etc. It is just that in my personal, read non-statistical, anectdotal, experiance small autos tend to be way more finnicky then small revolvers when it comes to reliability and types of ammo they can shoot.

Either can cause you problems and there are plenty of 100% semi-autos out there but for my money I go with a revolver for this role. YMMV.

Wheelman,

I am sure you are on the right track. I am also sure your choices are good ones. Now think about buying good holsters and a belt designed to support the weight of a handgun.

There is a bargain carry piece out there called a Bersa Thunder 45 and it's wholesale is about $200. I was amazed how well it serves as a CCW gun, it is accurate and reliable.

Regards,

Richard :D
