I'd like another 1911. I want this one to be PERFECT; with all the features I want, and none of the ones I don't want. I know a custom job can be done, but I was trying to see if any production 1911's fit these criteria.

OK, here goes. I'll start with the things I DON'T want:
1. Accessory rails- I have other guns to hang stuff off
2. Front slide serrations- blech
3. FLGR- a solution is search of a problem
4. Adjustable sights- I'll CCW this gun sometimes

Now the features I DO want:
1. Full size steel frame and slide (either blued or stainless is fine)
2. Ambi safety
3. Beveled mag well
4. Beavertail
5. Combat night sights
6. Lowered and flared ejection port

Sounds easy, right?

I've looked and Kimber, S&W, Springfield, STI, etc and none of them seem to come from the factory exactly as I've specified above. It's easy to find the features I do want, but they all come with one or more of the things I DON'T want.

Any help?

Generally, production models will have some of what you don't want. Some of them can be changed easily (FLGR for a GI setup). Others are more permanent (front serrations).

You'll probably have to either have a lower end gun built up or buck up and get a custom gun. Either will not be terribly cheap.

What's your budget?

You can easily find what you want from the semi-custom shops. There's the Custom Carry from Springfield Armory, the Special Forces from Ed Brown, and you can get any gun from Les Baer without front cocking serrations. The rest of the other details should be easy.

Buy a RIA tactical, replace the FLGR, and add your favorite night sights. Everything else is on the RIA tactical as you describe. Replacing the FLGR is a drop in part, and the stock tacticals sights are novak style and easily replaced.

In case you haven't figured it out, I have a RIA tactical

Haven't checked Para-Ordnance's catalog recently, but P-O seems to be the only maker out there selling "loaded" 1911s that do not have front cocking serrations. Not sure about their current models, but I think they didn't use the FLGRs, either.

It's easy. Buy one that does not have anything you don't like. It should be comparatively cheap. Then find a competent gunsmith to add what you want.

Given your parameters I bet I could get it done for under $1,000. It may take a few more bucks to make it feed, extract and eject reliably, but that wasn't part of the description and would be relatively cheap compared to the other issues.

Find the gun you want, without the Rail and buy it.

Then have a competent gunsmith bolt a Dawson Rail on the gun. Problem solved. If it's an issue of the FLGR, change it. You can do that yourself for about $10, including taxes on the parts. I think a "Bolt On Rail" will cost you $35-$50 pluse gunsmith fees.

No gun is perfect out of the box, but some come pretty close. I'd avise you to get as close as you can and then change the "little things' or learn to live with them and not change anything.

I haven't changed the FLGR on my Springfield Loaded yet because it hasn't given me any trouble, and I know how to keep one properly lubed. If maintenance was an issue I'd change the FLGR in a heartbeat.

Caspian arms matched frame and slide set; Terry Tussey, EGW or Novaks to build, Brownells' catalogue in hand; just add money.
Do it at least once in your gun life. The experience is worth what it costs.
Hint: If you choose this course of action, DO NOT GO CHEAP ON PARTS OR TALENT; BUY AND COMMISSION THE BEST; This is a guilty pleasure and part of it is its' worth whatever it costs. Cheers, TF

It looks like Colt has the best selection of pistols without front slide serrations. You would need some work done to get what you want, but should be doable for under $1,500. Baer will do what you want from the factory, but you are looking at 14-20 weeks wait time, and they are moving. You will pay closer to $2,000.
