Hello all,
I am getting into shotguns and I saw one at a show that I would like some info on. The problem is that I don’t know what the model was. I think it was a 500 but the dealer told me it was a "limited edition". It was all black with tactical styling. It had a synthetic stock with a pistol grip and it had a nylon strap on the fore end that had "Mossberg" embroidered in yellow. The barrel appeared to be 18.5 inches with the shell tube the same length as the barrel. I think it had a price tag of about $400. If anyone can tell me what the gun is called or the model number i would greatly appreciate it as I want to add one to my collection.
Thanks!
Dave

I dont think buying a $400 Mossberg 500 is a good choice. IIRC they start about $225(?).

Does limited edition really mean alot to you? If so, then buy it. But if your just getting into shotgunning you would be better off getting a regular one than dishing out that much when you can get the same thing for much, much less.

Also, who has time for collecting "special editions" when theres shooting to be done?

FOUND IT!!

Deer Hunter,
I am not new to guns by any means. I do own a shot gun but it is an old mossberg that was passed down to me. I am not interested in "special edition" as a collectors item. I am interested in this gun for function. This will be a gun that probably sits in the corner of the bedroom (Dont worry, I dont have any kids yet). I will take this shooting many times before I fully rely on it to defend my home and loved one(s).
Now that thats out of the way, what do you think of it? I like the feel of it mostly, But I won't lie, I love the look as well. I am kicking myself for not buying it but I had just spent almost $1000 at the show where I saw it.

I recently picked up a 500 combo for $343. Usually any sort of limited edition gun will cost a little more. You can probably get a Model 500 Special Purpose Persuader for a bit less. They have a synthetic stock but I don't think it has the pistol grip. After market stocks can be somewhat expensive, so if you like the stocks, it might be worth it. However, you should make sure you can reach the safety comfortably with your hand in the pistol grip position. Remember, Mossberg's have the safety on the tang. Anyway, I think you'll find the consensus is that any current production Mossberg 500 is a good, solid shotgun which you can have complete confidence in. Nice looking gun btw.

Looking at the features on the shotgun I don't think it is a bad deal at all. You'd get a better deal at a gunshow but with all of the stuff on that shotgun, 400 is a fair price. Now is it a limited edition? Not in my opinion. In the broadest definition, all guns are a limited edition because, well, they will eventually be discontinued. I'd say that the number of those made are less than the regular 500s.

Check out the Moss. Tactical Turkey,it is a whole lot more gun,not not much more money. It is also full camo and the 3.5in. mag.

I got to fondle one yesterday at a local gun shop near my fiances hose in GA. I almost jumped on it but i decided not to bc the gun shop owner was an idiot. He gave me a spiel about how it was custom built by one of the dealers they buy from. I gave him the model number and told him to look it up but he wouldn't hear of it. My fiance has told me that I will be getting one for my b-day. Just thought id share my progress in making this gun mine. What can i say, I'm excited. I will definitely post pix of it when it becomes mine.
