I picked up this up recently and know next to nothing about it beyond it pushed my buttons for big full sized rifle 22's

The rifle has a few issues. It's missing the front sight, it has a weak strike resulting in FTF probably 25% of the time

The barrel is grooved for a dovetail but it seems to be a non standard 10mm isha

Any background or feedback would be appreciated

Have you measured the dovetail so see exactly what size it is?

I can't speak for your rifle, but sometimes you will run across a 8mm dovetail on European rimfire rifles and airguns.

I think the action some variety of the System Aydt. The profile of the receiver is a good match to the Aydts, but there are a bunch of variations out in the Schuetzen world -- enough to fill three volumes in fact: https://gunandswordcollector.com/product/alte-scheibenwaffen-1/

Yours is a very nice but plain example compared to the kind of decoration frequently lavished on Germanic target rifles. kBob found a great match in his catalog illustration. The stock isn't the dedicated standing position only schuetzen type (hooked buttplate, cheekpiece, etc.), so I'd guess it was for a different shooting discipline.

Bohler was a well-known maker of German ordnance. My interwar Wehrmannsgewehr also features a barrel of Bohler stahl.

This website has some good information (in German) on the various Germanic target disciplines: http://www.feuerbixler.de/history03.html

I can't contribute much else -- the real enthusiasts can be found via the American Single Shot Rifle Association. They have a lively forum on Facebook, if you'd care to join the group:
