Picked this up at a local unclaimed freight. I know it's just a cheapo, but it's a "Made in the USA" cheapo :neener:

Was no box with it, just the knife and sheath. The blade is stamped with an American flag over "USA" next to "Columbia Saber". I can't get a decent pic of the text. A google search turned up some similar looking knives, but nothing that could positively ID the maker.

I will really appreciate any help! Thank you all.

Normally if you see a lot of acid etching (not engraving) it will be an import. Not that that's a bad thing. I'm a fan of many imported knives. tom

451 Detonics: I was of the impression that imported goods are to be identified with country of origin, are they not?

Tom: I'm familiar with acid etching and all that, would have preferred it not have the gaudy etching on the blade actually, just not my style. What caught my eye was that it resembled a scaled down version of a bowie my uncle has had for over 20 years that he won in a rodeo.

Would it be possible to polish the etching off the blade without ruining the finish? It doesn't appear to be very deep.

With that sheath and the holes in the blade, I'm guessing China manufacture.

Depends on age and also it could have been imported as parts and assembled here.
As I understand the law (specifically 19 C.F.R. Part 134.35), there needs to be a significant change by the importer of the parts in the assembly so that the whole finished product can be construed as "Made in USA". I know of plenty of knife manufacturers that import various parts, assemble them into the whole, and the various parts (most specifically the blade) are still marked "Made in ____ ", why should this knife manufacturer be exempted from those requirements? All I'm saying is, can someone enlighten me as to the exemption this manufacturer would fall under?

I know this is an old thread but just for anybody that is looking for this answer the correct information is that Saber USA is an old USA brand name that was bought by a Hong Kong based company using the name Columbia. So it's yet another American name being used by a Chinese manufacturer.
