Let me explain my situation quickly. My father and I have some property that I use to deer hunt on. We regularly work on it on the weekend doing things such as cutting wood, clearing trails, etc. My problem is, that the last couple of years the place has become overrun with dogs. Everyone in the area has a pack of dogs that they let pretty much let run loose. I have asked them to keep them put up, but have had no success.

The aggravation is, most of the deer I see on my own property, are being run by these stupid dogs. However, I do not want to start killing someones pets if I can help it, and my father would have an absolute cow. It would also cause more problems for my property through deer stand theft, etc.

All this brings me to step 2 (step one was asking them to keep their dogs off my place) which will be popping them with an air pistol to run them off. I am looking for something that I can carry easily in a holster, will shoot minute of dog out to about 25-30 yards, and will hit them hard enough that it will HURT! I also do not want to throw down more than about $50 if I can help it, as this will not be something that I use alot.

I have no experience with air pistols except a weak crossman 1911 that I had as a kid that would not shoot across my driveway.

Thanks for the help!

i have a beeman tempest. single shot, spring operated with adjusible sights new it goes for 165. you can have it for 85 + shipping

Actually, a pellet gun is useless due to lack of pressure or, too lethal due to too much pressure. I have had this same problem. I tried Colibri primer only 22s in my H&R 22. What did solve the problem ultimately was a 30-30 Winchester. Dogs that run feral ARE NOT family pets. I had a loss of a cow and calf from feral dogs. I posted a notice in the local paper of feral dog eradication and proceeded.

The projectiles are too small in airguns for you to ride the line between hurting them and not injuring/killing them.

A paintball gun with the power turned down a bit is probably a better solution. It also has the added benefit of notifying the owner that their animal has gotten into trouble somewhere.

Crosman, I think, still sells some very simple paintball guns that are compact enough for holster carry.

I have some new "neighbors" near my property.

They 'had' 8 dogs that ran loose all the time and would come up to my house and hassle my wife, son, dogs and horses.

I got sick of running them off so I tied up two of the and drove them over to the neighbors. After a few minutes of telling him how to keep his dogs under control he shook his head and said he didn't speak English. I know that to be a lie.

The next time one of his dogs wandered up to my place my neighbor ended up with 7 dogs. As of last month he has 6.

I find an SP-101 with 158g works great on feral dogs and you can wear it all day long on the ranch.
