I know this is my first post here - so it's more than little bit rude to ask you to give hand at the first point.

But I think we handgun owners in Finland really need some help now.

What's up?

Well, no more than there's mister Kimmo Pentikainen, also green-party activist, and member of Helsinki city executive board.
Mr Pentikainen publicly supports AND promotes proposal to ban ALL firearms that has under 600mm or 23,6\" long barrell

In practice, law would ban +90% of all firearms in whole Finland- owned 100% legally by private hunters, target shooters and other shooting enthusiasts

You may help us by signing this petition: http://www.petitiononline.com/teto/
(yep, my three lines were straight copy-paste from that www-page)

My (and the petition's) aim isn't to make this political - main point is to make Nokia to stop supporting activity like this.

Thanks in advance,
Pekka aka Simeon

I feel for your problem, but just why would Mr. Pentikainen in Helsinki give a rats a@@ that someone in another country signed an on-line petition? And where does Nokia come into this?

Simeon, welcome to The High Road. I also must ask why those in another country signing a petition would help your cause. It has been my experience that on-line petitions signed within the same country don't really do anything. If you can explain how it will help, I would be happy to do what I can.

Simeon - As other have already said, welcome to THR.

I have to agree with the others - signatures from non-residents won't mean a thing to the politicians in question, and could even possibly hurt your efforts. What I would suggest is that you search out a more region-specific forum and post about your situation there, so that the people you reach are more able to help. I know we have some members here from your general neck of the woods, perhaps they'll weigh in and be able to help you with places to check out. Visiting shooting clubs and other sportsman's orginizations and working to coordinate people against this proposed ban.

Whatever happens, good luck! The right to keep and bear arms should be recognized as a human right, not just an American one like so many assume and percieve it to be.

Welcome

I have to ask the question again..... What does Nokia have to do with the political question of guns and barrel length? Is Kimmo Pentikainen tied to Nokia? I can't find anything in your post or in the petition that you attached that hints at Nokia's support or connection to any of this.

Please inform us futher.

I think he's saying the politician's business is a subcontractor to Nokia. And he would like to put pressure on Nokia to stop financially supporting this guy who wants to take away guns in Finland.

Since the US is probably one of Nokia's major markets, he feels petitions from here to Nokia might motivate them to pressure the politician to cease and desist.

I'm sorry I didn't reply earlier.
But it's - purely - because of the time difference.

And:
Speedo66 hit the nail, imho.
I'm not going to explain it - considering my English sklills - any better.
