Help on a polymer

[BCD]

Hi newbie here and in a gun dillemma

looking at buying a polymer and my choices are:

1. Steyr MA1
2. SW 99
3. HK P30
4. XD 9

its now down to 4, and though i know tons of people have been asking for feedback here, i hope folks aren't tired yet to give their opinions on the above...

used to be a gun owner and now want to get back it...

by the way, noticed not much has been mentioned about Steyr here, any reason why?

I posted a similiar question a while ago and the overwhelming percantage of votes seemed to be for the XD. Another great polymer pistol , (other than the glock) is the Sig PRO................I love mine

I have 2 SW99s, in .40/.45 and they are without a doubt my favority poly pistols. Very comfortable to shoot and very accurate as well. I plan on getting a 9mm later this year to complete the set...

Never liked the feel of an XD, so my vote goes for the H&K P30. H&K is GREAT.

My son bought an XD in 9MM and loves it.

However, I bought a CZ 2075 Rami P in 9MM and love it.
So goes for people's tastes.

Maybe it would help to know where you live and maybe there are THR members close by to let you shoot the guns on your list?

the smith and the xd are very good guns dont know much about the other two but you need to get what feels right to you not what feels right to everyone else.

The P30 felt amazing in my hand. Better than any pistol I've ever held. Seriously.

Couldn't stand the DA trigger though, so I now own another pistol as my carry piece. But try the P30, it might be the right one for you.

@CountGlockula - good point... i'm in the Philippines so not sure if there are any THR members here.. but most frequent owners here have HKs, Sigs, XDs and Glocks... the Steyr isn't really new but not a lot I've seen... i'll see if I can get a chance to rent... oh, and cool name! haha

HK P30. You will not regret it, even at the higher price. You get what you pay for. Good luck, safe shooting.

I don't have a P30, but I love my polymer HK USPc.

Other than that, the P99 feels the best in my hand...just make sure to get the QA (Quick Action) trigger.

Just some food for thought... H&K also makes a P2000 and a P2000sk (sub-compact model) that you can get in 9mm. The P2000 also gives you the option of having a LEM trigger (constant light trigger pull on every shot... no DA/SA). I have a P2000sk in 9mm and I love it.

I happen to own a S&W 99 that I was planning on trading/selling. I took it out yesterday to take to the local shop to trade or put on consignment, but decided that I am going to keep it and buy another gun later on.

I think that it is a good pistol, just doesn't fit my hand that well, but I am going to experiment with the other grip inserts that I have. It has night sights and a lifetime warranty. I know that I would lose money in a trade and not get what I paid for it in a sale.

So, I am going to keep it.

Mine is a 9mm. I think that it is as good as any of the rest.

I would definately chose it over a Steyr or XD.

my vote is for the xd, all the way, i like h&k's just fine but i prefer the classic usp design and the p30 really dosen't really do anything for me. i have 2 xd's and love em.

I have an XD9 and a glock 19. I prefer the XD9 grip angles, so they get my vote. The glock is a fine weapon as well, but not on your list

i was looking around yesterday and handled (not fired) a few...

the HK P2000 had a nice "muscular" size to it but the handle just didn't feel right for me... i think the grips were too smooth or somethiing... and I remember i fired it maybe 5-6 years ago, don't really remember much about the shooting feel but i do recall having a feeling that it "slides"... and at the rate of its price here, Php80,000+/- (around $1900)... thats too pricey, even compared to US prices there... but i guess that could be because of the dollar/peso fluctuation too (which is an ENTIRELY different topic)...

also looked at the SW 99 yesterday and that did feel right... thats a sweet gun... its also priced a bit closer to actual US prices but still on the expensive side... next step would be to try to shoot one... not any of the 2 ranges close to where I am have rentals for it, so still searching...

held the Steyr A1 and that handle was good... although I felt that it wasn't as point-and-shoot as others... the hands seem to need to extend forward for the sights to click together... do others who have shot/own it see it the same way?

as for the XD9... that is SOLD OUT! can you believe it? the only (nearest) gun store in my place that has it is still waiting for its new shipment by February... the other stores don't carry it - yet - i think they will though judging from the response...

also shot the CZ75 yesterday... that was fairly an easy shoot... easy sighting, good grips, double action... so that "could" be a new entry... downside is - on just 50 rounds it jammed 4 or 5 times (10% of the time!)... could that be because it was a rental?

so far the search is still on and the HKs are out... sorry but thanks for the voters out there...

that brings it down to 3 (or maybe 3.25 with CZ just peering in...

Why are the HKs out? There are a variety of frames available other than the P2000. (P30, USP Full or Compact and the P2000sk)

The SW99 is discontinued. Still available, but they aren't making them any more.

The only polymer pistols S&W make now are their M&P, Sigma, and SW990 (DAO version of the SW99).

The SW99 uses pretty much the same frame as the Walther P99, which I have and like tremendously.

Also, your jamming with a CZ 75 was probably due to it being a rental gun.

Sigma's are cheap as hell now and they're pretty decent. I just picked up an XD9 and obviously it's way better but if you're on a budget and want something reliable and very cheap I'd get a sigma. I think I saw somewhere they were going for $210 brand new with a case and 2 mags.

I'd go with the XD9 personally because I've shot it and it's very comfortable in my hands. Try 'em out and see which one you like.
