I recently purchased an old (I believe 30s) h&r 22 special top break revolver. Gun is in decent condition but I've noticed a few issues, first off the gun only functions in double action, the hammer does not lock back for single action fire. Any idea what could cause this? It needs a good cleaning but I suspect the sear may be worn out. Also I've had problems with the firing pin reliably striking the cartridge rim. I noticed the hammer had a dimple where it impacts the pin so I had a welder buddy of mine fill it in so I can re-face it. However the pin still seems too short. I have also not been able to remove it, this is my first revolver with a frame mounted pin and I can't seem to get it out. I can get a pin and sear from numrich for a h&r 22 sportsman, these guns seem identical in terms of internals based off the limited schematics, would these part work and remedy my problem?

A couple of things, but first, let me say I don't own the exact gun you do:
- I have a late 60's H&R non-break .22lr. It had what I thought were light strike issues, but it turned out that the timing was bad, and it wasn't striking the cartridge in the right place. Fixed now. Check for that.

- I also have a cheap .32 revolver that had genuine light strike issues. Too cheap for a high quality fix, so I just put a spacer under the main coil spring and light strikes stopped. Is your gun coil sprung?

Also, the vast majority of the old top break H&R revos I see are non-functioning, to one degree or another. They just aren't well made guns. Don't spend too much time or money. A fun project, though.

An issue you'll face is that they produced a lot of subtle variations on their Sportsman /999 series of guns over the 30-40 years they were in production. Whatever replacement parts you get, expect to do a lot of hand fitting.
