Does anyone know how to neutralise Mercury Fulminate Primers without firing them?

I've been asked to do a display for the local RSL club. I've removed the powder from the rounds, but for added safety I`ve also been asked to neutralise the primers. It's military ammunition so it got burdan primers. I don't want to drill them out (500 Rounds) `cause that`ll take forever.:eek:

Any help greatfully accepted
 
Not 100% for sure every one inert.

Penetrating oil or spray will often kill primers if allowed to soak long enough.
But I wouldn't say it is 100% positive.

An "extra well sealed" primer might resist being "Killed" for quite some time.

The very safest, 100% sure way, would be to get a weapon in that caliber and pop them all off.

Well, I wouldn't either!
That would be a very dangerous thing to try to do!

If you removed the powder and have access to the primer through the two flash holes, soak the priming compound with water or oil.
 
Primers are almost aways factory sealed inside/over the primer compound with a foil disk and lacquer.

Whether or not every one of 500 rounds would allow complete oil penetration is a risk.

Water would only naturalize them until they eventually dried out again.
Then, they would be good to go again.

If you have removed the bullets and powder try filling them with water and get a wooden dowel that has a close fit with the neck of the case. Place the case head over some kind of hole just big enough to allow the primer to pass and insert the dowel and hit it with a hammer and see if hydraulic pressure will drive them out.
 
I'm pretty sure that any oil soaked primer is going to fail but how do you know for sure it got soaked?
 
It's been proven that killing primers with oil/WD-40 is not 100% reliable.
 
Once cases are free of bullet and powder set them on a hot plate on the back porch with a metal bucket over them.
Ten minutes later walk around the back yard with a puzzled look on your face just like the neighbors are doing.;)
Let cool.
