Now that I have fallen in love with my Colt New Agent for CCW carry, I'm thinking about getting a full size 1911 for target shooting and keeping next to the bed for home defense. I'd like to get it in stainless.
I'm thinking about either a Colt series 80 Gold Cup or a series 70 reissue, possibly a S&W 1911, though I'm happy with my current Colt and probably should stick with the same. Budget is $1000 and under.

Dang, I got bit by the 1911 acquisition syndrome.......

Suggestions on models I should look at?

I'm in the same boat and am probably going with the Sig GSR in stainless without the rail.

the sig 1911's are showing some problems. id wait till they iron out the wrinkles befrore gettign one

Well,

If you have a Colt and like it, why not buy another one? You can get the 70 series re-sssue in stainless. 80 series are around as well. You can get a new or used one for that price. I will say that I have a basic SA in stainless that is nice as well. Except for the MIM parts. SA also has some loaded models for under 1K. Nice, but not a Colt.

As to the SIG, the only one I saw was ok, but was on its way back becuase it had a feeding problem with less than 500 rounds.

A Colt is always the right answer.

My guess is that you will be pleased with either the Colt or S&W. The model you choose depends on your wants, likes, needs, and wallet.

My full-sized stainless 1911 is a pre-CZ, Dan Wesson Patriot. I have full-sized Colt and S&W 1911s in blue. If I wanted another stainless, I wouldn't hesitate to get a Colt or Smith, in that order.

Springfield loaded. It'll have most of the basic upgrades that you'll want.

While I like Colt, their QC is slipping again, and they cost more than Springfield for no other reason than their heritage.

I would suggest a Colt full size XSE in stainless. I have the Commander XSE and it has been a reliable shooter. You can get the XSE's for under $1,000.00

Send a pm to Wildalaska. His prices on new Colt's are really good.
