In the last 10-25 yrs there was a series shown on PBS about the RAF and the Battle of Britain.
It was a well done dramatic series with about 6-8 episodes and shown on the Sunday Night primetime slot on PBS.
One of the characters was named "Moggy"
There were lots of dogfight scenes.
I want it for a very old friend.
What was it titled and where can I get it?
PBS has not helped. :banghead: They must know I am a Libertarian.

I remember that series. It was quite good. Also there is a newly remastered special edition of "The Battle of Britain" around. It has a disk of extras including stuff on the Confederate Air Force that came to help. It was the largest flying collection of WWII aircraft in existence since the war. I think they had several hundred aircraft flying around, filming it all from a converted bomber! No CGI, so it's pretty amazing.

Yes the aerial footage from the "The Battle of Britain" is really quite amazing and well worth the viewing. I think they used a converted B-25 bomber for the camera platform for most of the aerial combat scenes. And I believe after they had assembled all the various aircraft from museums, flying associations, private collections, and of course, the Spanish Air Force, the producers had an air force that was larger than most Central and South American nations at the time!

I believe at the time they were filming this they actually had like the 8th largest airforce in the world.

Yeah it is a great series. My only gripe is that they used P-40 Warhawks to portray the German fighters. It would be really cool to use actual flying replicas of the Messerschmitt 109 and the Focke Wulfs. They just don't exist as far as I know.
And who could forget Moggy. Can not remember a character who was filled with more resentment in all of my movie viewing.
An extremely ambitious series that isn't vegging out material.

Was that technical detail on the special DVD? I could swear they were P-40s. The spinners, look at the spinners.
The most humorous moment I recall was when the pilots were reviewing aerial gun-camera footage. The intelligence officer showed how they were shooting at their own during the furball of an aerial dogfight.

Moggy:"Hmph, plenty of violence but no sex."

Funny line, but it seemed a bit anachronistic.

They used the Spanish CASA produced version of the Bf109 which used a British Merlin engine, like the Spitfire.

Correct. The Merlin redesign used a large radiator shroud that reminds people of the P-40.

Some of the Spanish HA-1112 planes, after their service lives were over, have been converted by collectors to look like their WWll German siblings. Such is the convoluted tale of German aircraft history.

An even greater irony is that Israel used a version of the Bf109 for their own defence in the early years.

I think I recall seeing this on tv when I was a kid. Maybe I'll have to check it out again.

In the mean time, this subject isn't really a gun-related discussion, so I'm going to go ahead and close it.
