I decided to break down my 336 over the weekend. I am just starting to teach myself how to work on the guns I own, especially my cowboy guns. After having good luck with my Rossi 92(total break-down and smoothing the rough spots) I thought I would try the Marlin. However, when I got it back together, the lever would not close & I realized that I had not seated the carrier properly. After taking it apart & back together the right way(so I thought) The lever would close but, very, very stiff. Everything works, (hammer, trigger safety ect...) but, the lever will only open & close with a very heavy hand. It feels like something is blocking it. Any suggestions?

did you put the ejector and spring back in? It pretty much lays up on the left side of the receiver and the bolt holds it in. It often falls out when taking the bolt out and either falls on the floor or into the innerds. Another thing ou might want to do is put a bit of Lubriplate or other greas on the lever extension where it goes into the bolt, makes it easier to use the lever.

Yes, the ejector is in & working. It seems to me that it might have something to do with the locking bolt or the carrier.
