Save your pennies and just get a Knights Armament SR-15 or a Noveske. If you're going to go lower end, then get a Colt 6920 or 6940. Bravo Company is good too.

These guns run and you don't end up spending all sorts of extra money on parts...or getting the existing parts up to snuff. I learned the hard way with lower end guns from Bushmaster and they always ran badly. Parts, gunsmithing, range fees, test ammo, different mags...it all added up to what I could have paid for a higher priced gun. Fooling around with that stuff is fun until you're in a fight, competition or training course.

Just get it over with and you'll have a gun that will last a long time.

Then, next year, acquire either an ACOG RCO or Aimpoint.

I just cannot see dumping that much money into a noveske or something like that. Im going to be going with the bravo company upper and lower, I feel like these guns are on par with rifles costing significantly more money and I believe it will serve me well. Ive read countless reviews on their products and service and have yet to find a single negative comment about them. I was actually looking at the colt 6940, but most of the ones Ive found were in the $1500 area, and I just do not see how they are $700 better than my BCM build, that $700 would go a long way towards, like you said, an ACOG, Aimpoint, Eotech, etc.

If you want a rifle you can absolutely rely on I would find and Arsenal SLR95, and some Bulgarian polymer mags. I would convert the rifle with an Ace sidefolder or use another product that places the bore lower relative to the shoulder thereby making the recoil come straight back like an AR. Then I would use a Trijicon Accupoint with the Amber triangle on a Texas weapon's system dogleg rail. That is if absolute reliability is the goal. I have an Arsenal SGL-31 which I could convert in similar fashion making it VERY fast and reliable. I also would have no problem hitting say milk jug at 200 meters with it. I know this is an AR thread but I feel strongly that for SHTF a high end quality AK converted for speed is very tough to beat. I have a Saiga 308 16" rifle that may be the best AK ever brought into this country in almost every respect. Every bit the match for any AR-15.

V3n0m.... A BCM rifle is a hell of a weapon. The more expensive guns might have nicer doo-dads and what nots, but they are not a better weapon. Get the standard BCM and slowly switch parts out when you find out what doesnt work for you and why it doesnt.

If you buy a full BCM rifle there will not be a single part in that gun that needs upgrading.

This is coming from a guy with a 1500 dollar Noveske. I like it a lot but its not a better weapon than your 900ish dollar BCM.

mshootnit- Hey man no problem, and your absolutely right, as for reliability...the AK is sure hard to beat. I really like Aks and they are a blast to shoot, but ive had aks and sks's in the past and have always been kind-of intrigued by the AR so I figure Id give one a try. Thanks for your comment.

Sky- I checked out that link. VERY informative, Thank you.

Thanks for the input c-grunt, I really appreciate it. But let me ask you a question, If I go with that 16" mid length complete upper and the cosmetic blemished lower from their website, what would be difference in a complete rifle from them, other than the forearm, rail, etc? The only difference I see is the upper assembly im getting comes with the standard BCM charging handle and a BCM complete rifle comes with the gunfighter charging handle, which is only a $44 upgrade.

Not sure, call them and ask. Thos gunfighter charging handles are awesome by the way. I dont have one yet but my buddy does on his daniel Defense. If you train with the more modern technique of using the handle, left hand grabs just the handle side and racks, it makes a difference.

BTW... I'm thinking of selling mine. Refer to "selling my AR" thread, if you're interested... do some homework & make an offer via private message. Its quite high quality.

buy the bushmaster, basic civilian model.....this way you can figure out for yourself what you like and dislike, then go ahead and soup it up piece by piece, as the possibilities are endless.

The FFL's I deal with do NOT consider the fee a profitable one, any more than a garage doing state inspections makes money on that fee. The labor alone takes more time than their hourly rate would make.

Ask an FFL if the fee is good enough compared to them purchasing the item and marking it up. Likely not, and if you don't want to buy his $130 stripped lower to send in a another you bought for $79, like I said, you can't even get the time of day from them. They will tell you profit is the money they make on goods they mark up, not a paperwork fee. They always lose money on transfers from their perspective. They are just hoping the goodwill eventually gets them another sale, not more transfers and lost profit because of the internet.

I must be the only one here who thinks that BC is overrated. I have no issue with the quality of their parts, and if you are buying the lowest of low end, they have good prices. Once you start adding any features at all, they quickly become average or worse in their pricing. Looking at their 16" uppers with rail systems is an education. The prices are high, and they don't list them with BCG, which is at least an additional $135 if you go basic. Essentially, the "list price" with the "sale price" underneath it are kind of a sham in some cases, as by the time you add the BCG and shipping, you are paying full list or more. When a Daniel Defense upper mated to a Daniel Defense lower costs more than a complete Daniel Defense rifle from your FFL, I don't see that as a bargain.

Not discouraging you from BCM, just make sure you do your research.

Wow, seems to be a good amount of ill-advised suggestions here.

It looks like you're on the right path though, pass on the advice and buy a BCM.
