I recently picked up a box of misc parts at a yard sale. There was a group of rifle caliber sizing dies that I can't identify. Based on the other stuff in the box, this old gent had a C&H "H" press, but I'm not sure if these parts we're for that press. Any help with ID? dies.jpg

Not familiar with that press or those dies pictured. Possibly for shotshell reloading comes to mind. C&H is now CH4D. They are still making dies and such an email enquiry with pictures and a ruler along the bottom to indicate scale might give you your answer. Worth trying at any rate.

I see some markings on the top of the parts, can't read. That should help us identify what they are if you can either list what's on them or a photo.
These are BIG. They screw into a standard die hole. The markings are rifle caliber designations, 303 Br, Whelan, Roberts, 30-06, 7mm, etc. But no manufacturer markings. Most are chrome plated, which makes me think old CH, Herters, American, etc. They are either swaging or sizing dies, I'm just trying to ID their corresponding press.

You sure have my curiosity peaked. I can't imagine what those would have to do with reloading. Has to be way before my time.
Do the holes in the knurled parts go clear though the knurled parts?

Yes. These are clearly sizing dies. I just need an "Old Timer" to ID them.

I have a C&H c press that I bought new in 1965 the dies for it are the same as RCBS or Lyman that you would buy today. C&H made a bunch of different presses, or maybe they are parts for some other tool. I would contact them.

They look like something from the era before the standard die system came about with the Pacific system. I have some old Belding & Mull seating dies that look like they work on a similar principle.

I looked at my old Ideal book from the early 40's and they had the tong tool but nothing like you have shown in your pictures.

ETA: Thinking about it they might have been used in conjunction with an arbor press setup like Sinclair, Wilson, K&M, or the like of today. The ones with the pins could have been used to push the brass back out of the sizing dies.

Mr. Morris beat me to it. They appear to be bullet swaging dies. What shape is the ID, closed end or does the hole go through the 7/8-14 bodies?

The hole in the knurled piece is straight all the way through. The punch piece protrudes 1/4" out the bottom when fully landed on the die body.

Definitely look like bullet sizing dies. I don't see any dies that would accept a piece of brass for the rounds listed. However I don't know why the dies would have cartridges listed rather than just list the size of hole..

I think that we can all agree that these are push-thru bullet sizing dies.
dies.jpg But the original question remains. What press were they made for?

Can you get a decent photo of the engraving/stamping and what is the clearance between the OD of the male part vs the ID of the female part?
