Need some tips on writing my Mayor about their updated weapons ordinance. The village code was updated in July after HB183. They’ve always had an AWB, but I have noticed some changes…the banned weapons list has shortened, and removed is language that has restrictions about carrying handguns. So they did pay attention to the bill…somewhat.
However, it still lists some things that I am under the impression that HB183 overrides. It is my understanding that it pre-empts any home rules pertaining to handgun types and magazine limits.
Language in my village weapons code still cites any device able to carry over 10-rounds is prohibited, AWB model lists certain types of pistols…it actually calls them pistols IE: UZI pistol. It also has restrictions like pistols with magazine attachment outside of pistol grip, weight limits on the pistol, pistols that are semi-auto versions of auto weapons.
Am I correct in my understanding of HB183? It’s a long bill, what sections can I cite that explain this in my writing to the Mayor?
Thanks guys for the tips.
