Hi all, my son recently purchased the above. Just looking for any owner tips; cleaning, ammo and the like. Not sure if he wants to scope it or not, but its says that it's drilled and tapped for a scope. Any insight or suggestions on cleaning or maintaining this rifle would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Otis sells a decent little cleaning kit for cleaning .22 rifles from the breech. I’m pretty sure that’s what Henry recommends.

I’d also look at a Ripcord. You can run it through your barrel at TGE range while the barrel is still hot (assuming it’s unloaded😎). This really helps to keep it clean.

I use both of these products with my Henry Big Boy .357 side gate.

The sights as they come from the factory take some getting used to, at least for me. I like the factory sights on the Henry H001 better as far as sight picture. They look just like regular pistol sights. Williams, Skinner, Ranger Point, and some others make aftermarket sights if you're so inclined. For a considerable increase in precision without going to a scope, I'd recommend some sort of peep/aperture sight. Try the factory sights first though. They're already installed and you may like them.

If I weren't such an aperture sight type of guy, I'd probably leave the factory sights in place as long as they matched what I wanted to shoot out of them. The Henry rifles will shoot Short, Long, Long Rifle, CB, Quiet, Standard Velocity, High Velocity, Hyper-Velocity, Interceptor, Velocitor, and 22 Shot. That kind of variety means you'll have to test your ammo with your sight of choice. My H001 is set for Aguila Super Extra High Velocity (1250 fps) and Standard Velocity (1100 fps). One notch difference on the rear sight between the two out to 50 yards.

Cleaning my H001 consists of a bore snake carefully pulled through the barrel two passes, then a damp Q-tip to swab out the open action. Then I wipe the whole thing down with an oil cloth and that's it. It's my fastest to clean rifle.

How about doing the following (you can buy kits and instructions from eBay or Amazon):

You can also buy the big hoop from Henery directly. They have you tube videos on how to remove the small hoop and replace with the larger one.

I chose not to. This is an MVA vernier #130. I had a smith install it and do a trigger job while he was at it. Had lots of fun ringing an 8” gong at 200 yards. It’s capable of better than that. I haven’t had a place to shoot that far for a few years. Hoping to remedy that soon. Have fun with your Henry they’re nice little rifles. IMG_1356.jpeg

I have three Henry rimfires, two .22 LR (H001 and a Youth) and a .22 WMR.

Two wear Skinner peep sights, the .22 WMR has its sight mounted on the action and the Youth has one that replaces the rear sight.

All three shoot well, i have had good luck with CCI Blazer, Norma TAC-22 (a little greasy-feeling), CCI Mini-Mags and Remington Golden Bullet 40 gr RN loads in all three rifles.

Tell him congrats, snd we hope he has a long and happy shooting future with his new rifle. (And hopefully several more someday!)

Stay safe.

+1 for TGE Skinner peeps sights. Put one on my Big Boy. Naturally, the stock front sight did not work with the peep sight and I had to go down that rabbit hole. My semi- buckhorn worked fine I just didn’t like it.

My son and I took his new Henry rifle to my local range a few days ago. He had taken it apart and lubed everything that needed it before the range trip. Ist off it ate every round of various bulk ammo we threw at it, and did so flawlessy. The actions smoothness absolutly blew me away. It was just butter. It outperformed my Marlin 39A in that respect. One sighted in, accurate as any other 22 I've owned and shot. For my 70+ yr old eyes the stock sights are way too small, for his 30 yr old eyes they're ok. He's looking at the different sight options and the stock sights will be replaced. I know that the Henry is not built out of titanium , but I don't doubt when he's my age It will still be running just fine! And if there is a problem down the road, I have full faith that Henry's excellent customer service will take care of it. We're both extremely pleased with it and would recommend a Henry 22.

PS- Watching my son having a blast shooting it - PRICELESS!
